COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, COLORADO
Council -Manager Form of Government
Organizational Meeting - 10:00 a.m.
The organizational meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins was held on Tuesday,
April It, 1995, at 10-.00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the City of Fort Collins City Hall.
Roll Call was answered by the following Councilmembers: Apt, Azari, Janett, Kneeland,
McCluskey, Smith and Wanner. Councilmember Absent: None.
Staff Members Present: Jones, Krajicek, Roy.
Oaths of Office - Newly Elected Councilmembers
Mayor Azari called the organizational meeting to order and asked newly elected
Councilmembers Kneeland, Smith and Wanner to step forward and take their oaths of office.
City Clerk Wanda Krajicek administered the oaths of office to the three Councilmembers.

Mayor Azari then stepped forward to take her oath of office as Mayor. City Clerk Krajicek
administered the oath of office to Mayor Azari.
Election of Mayor Pro Tem - Two Year Term
Councilmember Smith made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Apt to nominate
Councilmember Janett for the office of Mayor Pro Tem.
Councilmember Kneeland stated she would not support Councilmember Janett for the office of
Mayor Pro Tem.
Councilmember McCluskey stated he would not support the motion. He spoke of his interest
in reducing Councilmembers' commitments so that individual Councilmembers can participate
in events of interest. He stated he would like to see a change in the way liaison assignments and
committee appointments are made.
Councilmember Apt expressed support for Councilmember Janett and agreed Councilmember
McCluskey's concerns should be addressed, perhaps at the upcoming retreat.
Mayor Azari expressed support for Councilmember Janett and added she believed they have
created a good leadership team that represents the many positions that are on Council.

The vote on Councilmember Smith's motion was as follows: Yeas: Councilmembers Apt, Azari,
Janett, Smith and Wanner. Nays: Councilmembers Kneeland and McCluskey.
THE MOTION CARRIED.
Oath of Office - Mayor Pro Tem
City Clerk Krajicek administered the oath of office to newly selected Mayor Pro Tem Janett.
Comments
Councilmembers Smith thanked the citizens of Fort Collins for taking the opportunity to vote. He asked .
that citizens with concerns or ideas contact him.
Councilmember Wanner expressed his pleasure at being elected and asked that members of the
community contact him with their concerns.
Councilmember Kneeland expressed her appreciation to the community for its support in her reelection
efforts. '
Councilmember McCluskey thanked the City Clerk's office for its efficient handling of the mail ballot
election. He stated he was looking forward to handling the various issues that will be in front of the
City over the next two years.
Councilmember Apt welcomed the new Councilmembers and thanked all the candidates. He expressed
hope that the Council could work together on the goals shared by the community.
Mayor Pro Tem Janett thanked the Council for its confidence in her leadership qualities as Mayor Pro
Tem. She stated she is available to all Councilmembers to represent them in leadership meetings. She
stated she looked forward to continuing the role she assumed in December.
Mayor Azari spoke of the importance of the role of the Mayor Pro Tem. She recognized her family for
its support and spoke of the work to be done in the community. She spoke of the transition from a small
community to a substantial city on the northern front range and stressed the importance of keeping a
sense of community in place. She invited those present to a reception in the Council Information Center
immediately following the meeting.
