3 Issues
Housing
The Advisory Board should network with other agencies to understand the problems facing seniors
when it comes to housing such as ability to pay increasing property taxes, upkeep, etc., and for seniors
who are unable to meet increasing rents. Ways to address these issues include educating the public to
watch for vulnerable seniors living in their neighborhoods, ensuring that specific agencies have the
resources they need to address these issues, and bringing senior housing input to the attention of
private and public efforts to address housing concerns overall.
Transportation
Existing senior transportations services are available in the city primarily for medical appointments,
education, social services, and employment. Public transportation is also available. However, these
services end before nightfall which impacts seniors who have trouble seeing at night and would enjoy an
evening out. I would investigate the possibility of getting grant money for night transportation for
seniors, allowing them to be more active in the evenings and not be homebound.
Integration into Community
Seniors are most vulnerable to social isolation due to loss, disability, depression, and other issues. Fort
Collins is fortunate to have many opportunities for seniors to engage in activities with others such as the
Senior Center and its programs. But a community is much stronger and resilient when it can integrate
the experience and wisdom of the elderly with the energy and vision of younger people. I’d look at what
similar programs are available or were available before the pandemic and focus on bringing them back
and increasing the scope of those activities.

Why do you want to become a member of this particular board or

The city of Fort Collins is a great city and a
great place to live, work and raise family.
I've worked for the large employer in Fort
Collins, HP Inc. and now Microsoft. I
believe I can use my experiences and
passion to others to help the city of Fort
Collins and the community we all live in. In
addition, this would be my way of giving
back to my community.

I would say the three most important issues facing this board or commission are COVID-19 crisis,
affordable housing, social and environmental sustainability.
Because local businesses are vital to our Fort Collins community. It's important that we support our local
businesses, and cultural resources so they can stay open through the COVID crisis. We also need to focus
on housing for all, build houses that first time buyers can afford. It’s also important to address poverty
and the homelessness problems in Fort Collins. For our projected growth, we must have water, we must
make smart decisions about solid waste, climate and oil and gas development. Finally, we need to
improve outreach, inclusion, equity, and action for those who feel marginalized in our Fort Collins
community.
