HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 - Cultural Resources Board - Annual ReportCULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD 2018 Annual Report DECEMBER 2018 2018 ANNUAL REPORT Page 1 Summary The Cultural Resources Board (CuRB) consists of seven members. Regular meetings were held on the fourth Thursday of February, March, May, July, August, September, October and November from 12:00 p.m., to 1:30 p.m. The December meeting was held on December 13th due to the Holidays. The Board held three Fort Fund funding sessions on the fourth Wednesday of January, April, and June. The Board receives monthly updates from Cultural Services staff and acts in an advisory capacity to City Council for the Cultural Services Department that includes the Lincoln Center, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, the Gardens on Spring Creek and the Community Creative Center. The Boards’ specific advisory functions as defined in the City Ordinance N. 113,2017 are: (1) To advise and make recommendations to the Director of Cultural Services and Facilities and the City Council as to rules, regulations, policies, administrative and budgetary matters pertaining to the Cultural Services Department's programs, services and facilities and any other cultural facility constructed or operated by the City; (2) To review proposals for funding from the Cultural Development and Programming Account and the Tourism Programming Account, following established and published guidelines, and to submit recommendations regarding such proposals to the City Council to be approved by the City Council by resolution; (3) To advise and make recommendations to the City Manager regarding any proposed revisions to the guidelines used by the Cultural Resources Board to make the funding recommendations referred to in Paragraph (2) above; (4) To assist, advise and make recommendations to the Director of Cultural Services and Facilities and the City Council on arts and culture related matters and regarding opportunities to promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation for, the value of cultural resources in the community. Members who served in 2018 were Mr. Steven Sorensen, Mr. Will Flowers, Ms. Tedi Cox, Mr. Jesse Solomon, Ms. Jane Folsom, Ms. Vicki Fogel Mykles, and Ms. Amy Cervenan. Mr. Sorensen served as Chairperson for part of the year then resigned. Mr. Flowers replaced him as Chairperson. Ms. Cervanen also resigned. Ms. Lili Francuz joined the Board. Poudre River Public Library District PYCH Project Youth and Chamber Music dba Off the Hook Arts Sustainable Living Association The Center for Fine Art Photography The Family Center/La Familia Windsor Community Playhouse Wolverine Farm Publishing Fort Fund grants provided support to more than one hundred community cultural and recreational events in 2018. 3) CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD ACTIONS: a) CuRB encouraged Fort Fund applicants to broaden their promotional reach, specifically by adding questions to the application process that inquire about marketing plans. b) CuRB members served as liaisons to events funded by Fort Fund, attending cultural events in the community, lending support and assuring that the Fort Fund monies were being well spent and acknowledged. c) CuRB members reviewed and updated the Fort Fund Project Support II Program application. d) The Board continued to work cooperatively with Visit Fort Collins in making recommendations for Fort Fund dollars that encourage tourism. e) CuRB continued to support the Visit Fort Collin’s on-line events calendar and continued to required Fort Fund grantees to list their events on the calendar. CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD 2018 Annual Report 2018 ANNUAL REPORT Page 4 f) CuRB actively supported and participated in the FoCo Creates Arts and Culture Master Plan process working with the consultant and attending community events and activities.
