HomeMy WebLinkAboutYouth Advisory Board - Minutes - 01/09/2019YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING Wednesday, January 9, 2019 Fort Collins Activity Center; Conference Room ● CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Katie Ko at 5:30 pm ● ROLL CALL ● Members Present: Katie Ko, Sam Hammock, Milan Khosla, Emily Winn, Suhaas Narayanan, Vivian Bear ● Members Absent: Kaustubh Kaushik ● Staff Present: Tim Stabbe (Senior Supervisor Recreation) ● List of Guests: Emily Wilmsen (Keep Fort Collins Great Again (KFCG)), Becca Heinze (Adaptive Recreation Program), Drew Brooks (Transportation Survey) ● AGENDA REVIEW ● Ms. Ginny Sawyer who was originally intended to be there to discuss KFCG couldn’t make it so Ms. Emily Wilmsen took her place. ● CITIZEN PARTICIPATION ● No citizen participation for tonight's meeting ● APPROVAL OF MINUTES ○ Katie Ko approved last months minutes which was then seconded by Milan Khosla. ● UNFINISHED BUSINESS ● Community Chalkboard (not discussed in meeting) ● Transportation survey (discussed with Mr. Brooks) ● NEW BUSINESS ● Keep Fort Collins Great Bill ● What is KFCG? one piece of taxes/fees in city o Means to get revenue for functions o Base rate not changed since 1982 (2.25%) o 3 other dedicated taxes (0.25%) ▪ Street maintenance ▪ Capital improvement ▪ Open space 1/09/2019 – MINUTES Page 1 YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING ▪ Dedicated means that the taxes must be used on specific items ● Bill has reaches sunset in 2020 and is going to be put on the ballet again. ● Board is neutral about the decision ● Where YAB might find importance in KFCG because of transportation maintenance (i.e., bike lanes, safe routes to school) ● Becca Heinz discussed Adaptive Recreation Program, a program which helps assists Adults with special needs and provides them with unique opportunities. ● Drew Brooks who works for TransFort gave the board his time and allowed emily and Suhaas and Emily to present for the board ● BOARD MEMBER REPORTS ○ No board member reports for this current meeting. ● OTHER BUSINESS ○ Spots to fill for current Youth Advisory Board Members who won’t be active members next year. ○ League of Cities essays due ○ Community Chalkboard Which Will be discussed next meeting ○ Chairman’s Report ■ Leadership Tip of the Month: Emily Winn, Onward about Starbucks ● Employee benefits, better hiring ● Clear vision for where we want our projects to go, take revolutionary ideas into its goal ● ADJOURNMENT ○ Meeting adjourned at 7:05 by Katie Ko ■ Adjournment was seconded by Vivian Bear 1/09/2019 – MINUTES Page 2 YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING 1/09/2019 – MINUTES Page 3
