Mason Street | Civic Center Conference Room 12/19/2018 – MINUTES Page 1 1. CALL TO ORDER • Chair, Hailey Atkinson called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL • Board Members Present - Shana Ryken, Molly Alderton, Emily Gorgol, Lexie Kuznick, Melanie Potyondy, Hannah Little, Hailey Atkinson, Kori Wilford • Board Members Absent – None • Staff Members Present – Shannon Hein • List of Guests – Tina Todd, Deb James 3. AGENDA REVIEW • Shana asked to add her update from the Sexual Harassment Ad Hoc Committee meeting under Board Member Reports 4. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION • Deb James attended representing the National Organization for Women (NOW) and invited the commission members to their meeting on Tuesday, January 8 at 7 p.m. at the Mennonite Fellowship. 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Hailey motioned to approve the November 14, 2018 minutes. Melanie seconded the motion and all approved. 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a) Review of Annual Award Ceremony All members in attendance agreed it was a great event and appreciate the opportunity to partner with the Human Relations Commission. The commission will explore opportunities to invite other boards and commissions to participate in awards ceremony if appropriate. The Colorado State University diversity newsletter also featured the Marcille N. Wood award winner and those nominated as two CSU employees were nominated. The commission also discussed the success of combining the event with WomenGive in the past. WOMEN’S COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING 12/19/2018 – MINUTES Page 2 b) CEDAW Recap from November Lexie and Shana will connect with other boards and commissions that are relevant to invite to draft an informational memo. The memo will also include other communities around us that have passed this resolution based on Councilmember Stephens recommendation. 7. NEW BUSINESS a) Begin working on Annual Report (due Jan 31) Women’s Commission priorities are from the City strategic plan and will be reviewed. Current priorities include safety, health, and poverty b) Begin planning for Annual Retreat (Feb) Targeting February 23 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. c) Budget review Surplus will go into the general fund. d) Farewell to outgoing members Molly Alderton and Hailey Atkinson honored at their last meeting. e) Incoming members discussion New member appointed this month, applications are still available for two openings. 8. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS a) Proclamation and City Council attendance • Shana Ryken attended on November 20. Transgender Day was celebrated with a proclamation before Council meeting and was very well attended. Small Business Saturday was also recognized with a proclamation. The owners of Clothes Pony and Dandelion Toys, a woman-owned business helped accept the proclamation. • Melanie Potyondy attended on Council on Tuesday, December 18. Items included the Police Training Center and Council pay. • Shana Ryken attended the Anti-Harassment Ad Hoc committee The committee discussed sexual harassment training for boards and commission members. Every City employee will have to attend bi-annually. Curriculum and logistics still need to be worked out for the training. This will be promoted so the community knows the City has an anti-harassment policy. WOMEN’S COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING 12/19/2018 – MINUTES Page 3 b) Community events • Empowering women conversation: Tackling Exploitation, Assault, and Other Issues, January 10 at Council Tree Library from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Speakers include councilwoman Kristin Stephens, Tanya Cadwell, Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Center (SAVE); and a representative from Free Our Girls. The program is designed and hosted by Emma Schulman. • Northern Colorado NOW is hosting a candlelight vigil to commemorate the 46P th P anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision on January 22 at 7 p.m. in Old Town Square on the stage at 7 p.m. • State of the City on January 29 at The Lyric from 6-8 p.m. 9.
