HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 06/14/2017City of Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board MINUTES Wednesday, June 14, 2017 11:30 a.m. Fort Collins Senior Center 1200 Raintree Drive Fort Collins, Colorado 80526 Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity y to the Fort Collins City Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community. Board Members Present: John Baine, Suzanne King, Irisa Luft, Suzanne Dalton, Myles Crane, Dhara Rose, Diane Smith, Sara Schilz, Jason Brabson, Wendy True Staff Present: Bob Adams, Jason Chadock, Katie Stieber Speaker(s) and Guests: Eric Sutherland guest Absent: Greg Wells Unexcused absence: Nancy Lutropp I. Correspondence i. none d. Update on SAB Activities of the last month i. PAFC did shirette, builders and developers that wanted to consider senior housing, grass roots, Sarah has minutes, will share electronically IV. Public Participation 5 min a. Eric Sutherland – “financing of parking garage by leasing the senior center; concerns of leasing senior center, $800,000 annual payment to bank, risk factor drives sales tax from tax that sunsets in 2020, 1st reading of this issue has already occurred. Deal has legal infirmities. Wants to share information to educate this group.” Diane – gave some background on this issue, lease / lease back. Using senior center as collateral in the parking structure issue. When expansion committee raised funds, many granting organizations funded project and included that the building could not be used as collateral. Bob Adams – spoke with Mike Beckstead. Trying to set time for Mike to answer questions. Plans to speak at FSCS Friends June 29 at 4:00 pm. Mike Beckstead did reach out to the two grantees and has been reassured that approval has been given to move forward. Myles – there are many steps that prevent loss to senior center. Many clauses of protection. Bob – this is a normal SOP. Diane – wish the City had better record keeping of grants. City should have come to us first. Recommends City looks at the downside of planning. Why was a revenue bond not considered? 2nd reading is July 5. Recommended to bring concerns up to council. Myles moved to send a brief note to Ken Summers and CC council, in the future when there are issues involving the senior center and senior community, it would be appropriate to present in advance. Updates 15 min a. Senior Transportation Coalition - Diane Smith a. Coalition met, travel training occurring on bus systems (Loveland, Berthoud, Fort Collins); county doing transportation study in unincorporated areas b. City of Fort Collins Affordable Housing, 1st Thursday, 4 pm, City Hall; Sarah Schilz a. Now being attended by Greg Wells, he did not attend c. City of Fort Collins Transportation, 3rd Wednesday, 6 pm, 215 N. Mason community room, Suzanne King – nothing to report; Diane did report Sunday service will be reinstated d. PAFC steering committee: Myles Crane a. AARP offering grants for senior projects, PAFC exploring potentially applying b. Senior access points project e. PAFC – Housing, Nancy Luttropp – not in attendance f. PAFC culture of aging committee g. PAFC health and wellness committee h. Bridging the Gap 9/27/17; 3:00-5:30 pm; regular meetings being held i.
