Present: Kimberly Allison, Colleen Conway, Johanna Ulloa Girón, Jimena Sagas, Victor Smith and Joseph Somodi,
Absent: Susan Mathre, Nancy Tellez and Laura Vetrano
Guest Presenters:
• Attorney Kimberly Baker Medina – Immigration Issues
• Cheryl Distaso – Proposed Amendment Regarding Immigration Status
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m.
AGENDA REVIEW
The meeting agenda was unanimously approved.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The March meeting minutes were unanimously approved.
PUBLIC INPUT
Community member Maria Castro presented information about immigrants’ long work days to support their children and,
because of fear of retribution, the hesitancy to report unlawful incidents.
GUEST PRESENTATIONS
• Attorney Kimberly Baker Medina and Cheryl Distaso presented the history of immigration issues in Colorado.
A Proposed Amendment to Chapter 13 of the City Code to add a New Article III Concerning Discrimination based
on Immigrant Status and a list of key points about the Community Trust Ordinance draft was presented.
DISCUSSION TOPICS
• Members discussed and voted unanimously to support the Community Trust Ordinance in a memo to City
Council.
• Members voted to present the Community Trust Ordinance to City Council if that action could be supported by
HRC parameters.
• Members offered to take the Community Trust Ordinance proposal to various groups and individuals in an effort
to educate community members about the issue.
• Colleen Conway gave insight into the interviewing process behind the opening for the Equal Opportunity and
Compliance Manager position, City Manager’s Office.
CLOSING
A motion to adjourn was unanimously approved at 7:36 p.m.
The Next HRC meeting will be Thursday May 11, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. in the CIC Room, City Hall West.
