Betsy not here – will approve next meeting 4. Citizen participation: Jack White 5. Overview of Boards & Commissions a. Council-manager form of government b. 3 employees: city attorney, city manager, municipal judge i. We’re here to help council not lose sight of what’s important to community c. YAB is largest connection with culture & recreation d. Here: Milan e. Engage Volunteer System f. Refresh on details about Boards & Commissions Training 6. Role of YAB (Cyril Vidergar) a. We provide recommendations to Council about issues pertinent to youth i. Gather information and communicate with other youth groups about issues of importance ii. Document these issues 1. How these affect city-operating services (i.e., MAX) iii. Review & discuss legislation that affect youth iv. Enact policy changes that would enhance the experience for youth in the community (i.e., curfews) b. Work plan (2017-2018) i. To coordinate a regional project from a common concern 1. Not one of our functions unless the project is around gathering information about issues pertinent to youth ii. Research & gather the youth’s opinions on transportation iii. Share input on current issues & learn more about community outreach 1. We want to outreach to the youth so we can get more input on issues we can get a broader perspective on issues of youth iv. For city council, they think it is very important that everyone has a chance to express their opinion → carry through the spirit of the council 1. Students? Any youth really c. Risk of doing things outside of scope: not within the powers of city i. We’re more of an advisory board, not action board d. Examples of boards i. Energy board ii. Parks & rec board iii. Golf board iv. Look at their minutes! e. Council has not instructed boards to collaborate with other boards i. They don’t want us to make issues with other boards ii. If we aren’t getting enough issues, take a look at the other boards & go to some of the meetings 7. Community Chalkboard a. Viv got an email from Gaffney i. Meet Gaffney on Friday at 4:00 b. Points to discuss with Gaffney i. Ask if the PSD chalkboards will be up to regulation 1. Ask Betsy!! ii. Size & pricing 1. iii. (Physical) Regulation 1. Ask Megan about NAHS at RMHS 2. FCHS is down for an inaugural mural 3. Foothills custodial staff? 4. Discuss options with Gaffney about what he thinks about cleaning 5. Can it be public property? 6. Inclusions of e-bikes in the community (Should they be allowed on the trails? The state does not qualify 1 & 2 as motor vehicles) 1. What are your opinions on them? 2.
