HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 01/11/2018COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Fort Collins City Hall, Council Information Center Thursday January 11, 2018 Board Members Present: Sherri Reichow, Marilee Boylan, Jan Barela-Smith, Rustin Hughes, Mandy Morgan, John Morris, Michael Marr, Arianna Kilmer. City Liaisons Present: Christine Macrina, Carol Thomas Call To Order: 12:18 pm 1. Introductions: Mandy Morgan introduced herself and was welcomed as a new member of the Board. Arianna is now officially a recognized member, and Sherri has been reappointed. 2. Approval of Minutes: In the transition process of losing and adding board members, the minutes for the month of December 2017 were not officially documented. Persons present were Sherri Reichow, Marilee Boylan, John Morris, Terry Schlictling, Arianna Kilmer, Michael Marr and Carol Thomas. 3. Open Discussion: Rustin announced that B-Bold will be holding an adaptive living martial arts clinic starting January 20-February 24th from 1-2:30 pm. This is a non- contact clinic for all skill and ability levels. See Rustin for additional information at 970-237-0397. 4. New Business: a. Christine provided the group with Boards and Commissions Members’ Training in city organization, the seven key outcome areas, city council liaison and expectations, and an introduction to Parliamentary procedure. b. Carol emphasized the importance of all members attending and completing the assessment relating to the “Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team” prior to her upcoming trainings. These will be held in two sessions to begin on January 25th from 5:30-7 pm and conclude on February 8th from 6-7:30 pm. Both meetings will be held at the City Hall Information Center in concert with the Human Relations Commission to allow for more dynamic input. Please save the date and complete the assessment in advance of the training. c. The Board has been working on an ADA Special Event Checklist for use by the City in the Special Events licensing process to ensure compliance with existing ADA laws. Carol passed out copies of the preliminary accessibility checklist drafted by the subcommittee, and John initiated discussion over how the Special Events Subcommittee meeting with Doug Buffington and Jan Sawyer went. Marilee, Terry and Arianna were also present at this “New West Fest baseline meeting” which plans to meet with city leaders quarterly. The subcommittee will meet again in this room on 2/25 from 12-1:30pm. One additional positive benefit from this initial meeting is that the City will now keep cable ramps on-site for future use. 5. Unfinished Business: a. John sought follow-up on IBC codes on universal dwellings. This issue was addressed with Mike G, now retired, in early 2017, and Arianna stated that she believed they were approved. Carol offered to followup with Russ, Code Building Officer, about this. The Board seeks to see what actually was passed and the actual wording and ratios which were approved. 6. Community News & Updates: a. Marilee shared that the Arc of Larimer County will be holding a film festival on March 2nd from 6-8 pm in honor of Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month. Tickets are $10 if purchased now and will be more at the door. Please save the date. b. Carol stated that the City will be retrofitting the elevators to be ADA compliant and remodeling will soon be in the works.
