HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 03/08/2017COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Fort Collins City Hall: Council Information Center 12:15 p.m. Thursday, March 8th, 2017 Present: Leslie Efird, Jan Barela-Smith, Hettie Hueber, Terry Schlicting, Sherri Reichow, Rustin Hughes Absent: Marilee Boylan, Michael Marr, John Morris, City: Jennifer Harvey, Ali Recio, and Timothy Wilder Guests: Michael Pruznick, Vera Pruznick, Mandy Morgan, Jeanne Papenthien Call to Order: 12:23 p.m. 1. Introductions: 2. Approval of Minutes: February-Minutes passed as amended, Hueber moved to approve Schlicting seconded. 3. Open Discussion: A. Michael Pruznick shared his views with the COD on transportation improvements for Fort Collins. He would like to see more services and easy, safe transportation for all. Pruznick would like the city to look into zoning for tiny homes to cut down on cost for city services and making more affordable housing in Fort Collins. He is also concerned about hate and discrimination in Fort Collins and feels the City needs to work hard against this. B. Vera Pruznick told about her problem with not being able to reach the crosswalk button while riding her recumbent bicycle. The conversation moved to the discussion the commission had with Joe Olson about the pushbuttons and the problems with hand cycles and recumbent bike riders not able to press the cross walk buttons from the bikes without having to get off the bike. The COD would like to have some members of the city staff to have a ride along with several members of the COD on recumbent bikes or hand cycles. 4. New Business: A. Morgan gave a presentation on the development of the Brickstone Apartments that will be built adjacent to the property of the Harmony Road Apartments. The Harmony Road Apartments are home to 24 Fort Collins residents with neurological and physical disabilities. The concern being a shared driveway for the new apartments and the safety of the residents living at the Harmony Road Apartments. The Harmony Road Apartment residents will also be losing access to natural green space. After a discussion the COD would like to focus on sidewalk improvements on Harmony Road. Schlicting suggested a flashing crosswalk for added safety. The COD would like to invite Martinez to our April meeting to share our concerns. B. Wilder gave a bus stop improvement up dated. He talked about the cost, long- term plans and needs. Wilder told where the progresses of updating the bus stop are at this time. He gave time to answer any questions the COD had. 5. Unfinished Business: A. Annual report, Hueber will go over, amend and update the annual report to be voted on by COD. B. Michael Gebo letter was sent before deadline with the 60 inches minimum in width and with 36 inches minimum in depth for the roll in showers. 6. Community News and Updates: A. The Job for the Fort Collins Equal Opportunity Alliance manager will be posted March 20th B. Hughes informed the commission of an adaptive boxing program with his nonprofit BBold. New class starts April 1st. Reichow moved to adjourn. Efird seconded. Meeting adjourned at 2:07 pm. Submitted by Leslie Efird
