HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 11/08/2017City of Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board Minutes Wednesday, November 8, 2017 11:30 a.m. Fort Collins Senior Center 1200 Raintree Drive Fort Collins, Colorado 80526 Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity y to the Fort Collins City Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community. NOTE: Lunch will be provided. Board Members Present: Alan Beaty , Sarah Schilz, Nancy Luthropp, Myles Crane, Wendy True, Greg Wells, Suzanne King, Dharma Rose, John Blaine Staff Present: Katie Stieber Speaker(s) and Guests: Darlene Sanderson Absent: I. Public Participation: guests introduced – a. V. Speakers a. Christine Macrina Engage Data Base Training for Volunteers Christina Macrina (Boards and Commissions Coordinator) presented a new software tool (Engage) that tracks volunteer hours. Fort Collins currently ranks 7th nationally in volunteer hours based on similar sized communities. You can track your volunteer hours and add to it based on the work you are doing in the community. Christina brought cupcakes as well! http://engage.fcgov.com VI. Ongoing projects a. Infographic b. Legislators are in session, Sarah Schilz will looking into carpooling and transportation to visit Representative Ginal while in session January – May; Sarah has passed the infographic around (realtors); Wendy will provide Sarah with a list of planners; Myles will send out message regarding the possibility of providing this to City Council. c. Hughes being torn down; educate City / CSU to include senior/affordable housing if that property becomes housing d. Wendy will put together a draft for board to look at regarding affordable senior housing for the Hughes Stadium area. h. Updates a. Senior Transportation Coalition - Diane Smith – Jason Brabson b. City of Fort Collins Affordable Housing, 1st Thursday, 4 pm - Myles Crane c. City of Fort Collins Transportation, 3rd Wednesday, 6 pm, 215 N. Mason community room - Jason Brabson d. PAFC steering committee: Myles Crane – PAFC Steering – there is currently a 5 yr. plan available (online) for viewing e. PAFC – Housing, Nancy Luttropp- there is currently a director position opening and the proposed hiring date is January 2018. f. PAFC culture of aging committee- g. PAFC health and wellness committee-Myles – h. LCOA – Myles and Katie i. Bridging the Gap – wrap up j. Sunflower Community (Mulberry and I-25) – this community was recently purchased and there is a potential that property rates will rise forcing current residents out of the community. This is another example of possible lack of affordable housing options in the community. VII. New Business – Brief Discussion of Any Issues of Concern a. Education - b. Outreach - c. Advocacy d. The Senior Advisory Board unanimously approved a motion to recognize all departing members with a photo board plaque or similar gift. Myles agreed to bring the SAB photo taken on Nov 8 to FedEx for presentation with a farewell card to Diane Smith on December 13 Adjourn - UPCOMING EVENTS: UPCOMING SPEAKERS: November 8 TBD; Future presenters: Diane Cohen?
