HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 11/09/2017COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Fort Collins City Hall: Council Information Center 12:15 p.m. Thursday, November 9th, 2017 Present: Leslie Efird, Hettie Hueber, Terry Schlicting, Sherri Reichow, Marilee Boylan, Jan Barela-Smith, Rustin Hughes Absent: John Morris, Michael Marr City: Carol Thomas Guests: Call to Order: 12:19 p.m. 1. Introductions: 2. Approval of Minutes: October -Minutes passed, Marr moved to approve Reichow seconded. 3. Open Discussion: A. Efird announced the grand opening of the Twin Silos Park. November 9th 3:30 to 5:30. B. Schlicting had a question for discussion about the prior program that had been set up by the City of Fort Collins to place ramps for approximately $75 outside of Old Town businesses along with doorbells. Would it be possible for the program to be reinstated? Questions that were posed, what would the name of the program be and is funding available. 4. New Business: A. Mayor’s Awards Debrief- COD felt that the Mayor’s Awards went well with the new format. Changes where talked about for next year. A discussion on what went well and what needed to be implemented for next year. Thomas took notes of needed changes and ideas. Hueber will send any information to members that will be helpful for future Mayor’s Awards. The COD would like to send a Thank You to the City personnel who did the audiovisual for the awards. The video of the Awards will be online soon. B. Retreat Dates- Discussion on dates for a retreat that will be giving by the City to inform and educate commission and board members on policies and practices. All members present at the meeting where fine with involving and sharing training time with other boards or Commissions. Date may be a Saturday in January or February. C. Special Events Permits update-The new permit process has been finalized. Ideas and suggestions came up for discussion. Should the COD have a task force? How would this task force look? Should there be an ADA checklist and how much dose the COD want to be involved? Boylan and Schlicting will draft a ADA check list. 5. Unfinished Business: A. Work Plan-The COD reviewed changes, amended some of the changes and voted to approve 2018 work plan. B. The Commission had a brief discussion about adaptive cycles and the bus transportation problems that have not been salved. Having a subcommittee on this and other topics seems to be in the future. We would also like to have a list of the COD’s most important priorities. 5. Community News and Updates: A. Secret Sleigh is a program that will have a Santa visit children that are medically compromised. Hueber asked if anyone knows of someone who would be a Santa or any child needing a visit to please e-mail her with the information. Schlicting moved to adjourn. Barela-Smith seconded.
