Smith Present: Myles Crane, Johanna Ulloa Giron, Jimena Sagas, Preety Sathe, Vic Smith, Nancy Tellez, Mary Vivo, Janet Freeman (for Beth Sowder) Absent: Colleen Conway, Joseph D. Leske, Beth Sowder Community Members: Susan Mathre (citizen interest), Anthony McGlaun (citizen interest), Carmen Mendoza (Connections/citizen interest), Carol Miller (citizen interest), A.J. Ortiz (SAFY). Guest Presenters: Jason Cvancara – US Dept. of Justice (Canceled by guest) CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m. AGENDA REVIEW The meeting agenda was unanimously approved. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The September meeting minutes were unanimously approved. PUBLIC INPUT A.J. Ortiz, Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth, Fort Collins; Anthony McGlaun; Carmen Mendoza; Carol Miller. Council Member Bob Overbeck addressed the Commission, thanking members for their work. GUEST PRESENTATION Scheduled presentation was cancelled by guest DISCUSSION TOPICS HRC discussed possibilities for cultural education to promote equity in Fort Collins. Motion to approve and send a memo to PSD requesting information re: education of diverse and disparate populations was unanimously approved. As a demonstration of appreciation, presenters from the 2016 series of HRC Forums will be invited to an HRC meeting. A $200 allocation for presented stipends was unanimously approved. Plans for the HRC Awards Ceremony are in progress. Nominations have been submitted for each category. COMMITTEE REPORTS, EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS The annual Fort Collins Multi- Cultural Retreat was well attended and successful. India Night will be held October 30th at 4 p.m. at the Lincoln Center. The Commission on Disabilities Mayor’s Awards will be held on October 20th at 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. CLOSING A motion to adjourn was unanimously approved at 7:30 p.m. The Next HRC meeting is Thursday, November 10th at 5:30 p.m. in the CIC Room, City Hall West.
