HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 - Senior Advisory Board - Work PlanFort Collins Senior Advisory Board 2018 Work Plan Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Fort Collins City Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community. Work Areas for Prioritization Education: • Continuous learning about the senior community and other communities with similar interests. • Striving to educate others about the senior community. • Raising awareness about the senior population, its benefits and contributions to the community as well as unique needs and areas of concerns. Education Action Areas: • Engaging with other organizations pursuing similar goals (Larimer County Office on Aging Advisory Council (LCOA), Partnership for Age Friendly Communities (PAFC), Loveland SAB, Transportation and Housing (staff and boards) and Nutrition Programs for seniors. • Compiling and communicating information describing the Senior population and its value and benefits to the community. • Keeping current on critical issues so that we can inform other seniors. Outreach: • Networking with other individuals and groups that are working on issues of interest to seniors. • Working to enhance the visibility of the senior community. • Increasing our collaboration with other Boards and Commissions within the City as it aligns with senior needs. Outreach Action Areas: • Engaging with other organizations pursuing similar goals (Senior Center Council (SCC); Partnership for Age Friendly Communities (PAFC). • Organizing and cohosting annual the Bridging the Gap Networking event (with Loveland SAB, LCOA, Elder Care Network) • Participating in events within the community (Senior Law Day, Elder Care Network) • Scheduling SAB outreach meetings as appropriate to encourage engagement with seniors in the community and timely publicizing the program schedule, speakers and agenda. • Encouraging SAB members to liaise with other boards to notify them of SAB activities and speakers for upcoming meetings. Advocacy: • Apprising Councilmembers of our representation for the senior community when crucial matters are under consideration by City Council or City Management. • Engaging proactively to improve affordability and availability of housing and transportation needs for seniors. Advocacy Action Areas: • Engaging with other organizations pursuing similar goals (Senior Transportation Coalition) real estate developers, City-related affordable housing initiatives and concerns. • Attending senior events throughout the community (identifying low/reduced fee and free programs) and attending events where one or more SAB members are invited. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
