HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 11/12/2015COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Fort Collins City Hall 12:15 p.m. Thursday November 12, 2015 Present: Marilee Boylan, Michael Marr, Terry Schlicting, Leslie Efird, Michael Marr, Michael Devereaux, Rose Luna, Michelle Miller Absent: Hettie Hueber, Sherri Reichow (with contact) City: Ethan Cozzens, Dawn Nelson Guests: Maureen McCarthy City of Fort Collins, Christina Marzahl, Annie Bierbower City of Fort Collins Call to Order: 12:24 p.m. 1. Introductions 2. Approval of Minutes: September Minutes - Marr moved to approve, Luna seconded. July Minutes - Schlicting moved to approve, Boylan seconded. 3. Open Discussion: a. Boylan gave an update about the City Council meeting on Oct 6th that she attended. Schlicting will email the Commission a first draft of a thank you letter he plans on sending to the City Council thanking the Council for the support of the city bus stop plan. b. Boylan is to speak to the Fort Collins Police Department heads about better ways to interact with people with disabilities. She invited COD members to attend the Monday meeting. c. Commission members have agreed to move future meeting dates to the second Thursday of each month, with the subcommittee meetings on the 4th Thursday of each month. 4. New Business: a. Annie Bierbower Fort Collins Civic Engagement Liaison with CPIO introduced herself to the Commission. She would like to be available to the Commission and to offer help wherever she is able. Schlicting gave her an overview of what the Commission has been working on in 2015. b. COD talked about Uber and Airbnb and the lack of ADA compliance and vehicles that are equipped to transport people with disabilities. The Commission discussed ways to make Uber more aware of people with disabilities needs and wants for this service to all people. 5. Old Business: a. Commission discussed Peter Iengo’s presentation on the comprehensive assistance for low-income electric customers. Commission would like to know how many people would be affected. We will ask Iengo to come to the December meeting with more information. b. Boylan showed the transportation survey, input was given. c. McCarthy gave information about ramps in old town. The City and the DDA worked on getting ramps and wireless doorbells for the Historic District in Old Town. Ramps and doorbells are available to Old Town buildings for $75. 6. Community News and Updates: a. No new community news or updates. Marr moved to adjourn. Luna seconded. Meeting adjourned at 1:59 Submitted by Leslie Efird
