HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 - Natural Resources Advisory Board - Annual Report1 MEMORANDUM FROM THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS NATURAL RESOURCES ADVISORY BOARD DATE: Jan 16, 2014 TO: Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Joseph Piesman on behalf of the Natural Resources Advisory Board SUBJECT: 2013 NRAB Annual Report In 2013, the City of Fort Collins Natural Resources Advisory Board (NRAB) held 11 regular meetings during which 40 agenda items were considered, 10 actions were taken and 7 related memoranda or reports were sent to the City Council. In addition, one joint meeting with the NRAB and the Water Board was held. Joseph Piesman and Harry Edwards were elected chair and vice-chair respectively. One member of the NRAB served as a representative on the Bicycle Advisory subcommittee of the Transportation Board; an NRAB representative served on West Nile Virus Advisory Panel. The NRAB Chair attended a special Update on the Foothills Mall Development. The NRAB Chair and Vice-Chair attended a “5-Board Group” series of meetings related to updating the City Greenhouse Gas Reduction Goals and Energy Plan. An NRAB member also attended a strategic planning meeting related to the future of Fort Collins. Moreover, an NRAB member attended various events, meetings, and workshops as part of the Road to Zero Waste “Working Group”. The Table below lists the agenda items considered and the actions taken by the NRAB during 2013. The actions taken include Memos related to: Cardboard Recycling, Urban Agriculture, Energy Star Requirements for URA Projects, Recreational Trail Master Plan, Trail System Capital Expansion Fee, International Building Code, Nature in the City, and the Road to Zero Waste. The Road to Zero Waste was a major emphasis of the NRAB in 2013, as was the joint meeting with the Water Board which included several topics on the ecological health of the Poudre River. The NRAB had a productive year and we look forward to another year of service on behalf of the people of Fort Collins, as well as the environment and natural resources of Fort Collins.
