Agenda Review & Items of Note: None Citizen Participation: None Approval of Minutes: Discussion: None Scott Sinn made the motion to approve the Parks & Recreation Board minutes of September 23, 2015, seconded by Bruce Henderson – Minutes approved 7:0. Meeting Summary The P&R Board reviewed their Work Plan for 2016 and made minor amendments which Carol Rankin captured for final draft and submission. Scott Sinn made a motion to approve the 2016 Parks & Recreation Board Work Plan & Meeting Schedule as amended. Seconded by Bruce Henderson VOTE: 8:0 in favor to approve as amended No discussion STAFF UPDATES Parks Updates • Holiday lighting will be 100% complete and ready to go for the November 6 lighting ceremony. • Old Town Square grand reopening is scheduled for October 23. Design and plans for plants will be done with DBA for next summer. • The winterization campaign is going on at all the parks (blowing out irrigation, drinking fountains, etc.). • The Cemetery Office has moved to the Park Shop 413 S. Bryan Avenue. • The median renovation on Horsetooth & Lemay will be done on November 2. • This summer parks worked on a 1v1 trash/recycling program at all the parks to reduce the number of trash cans an increase the recycling opportunities and this was a successful program. • Some 2015 year-end statistics to share: Large Event reservations 112 Shelters reserved 505 5K’s reserved by Parks 8 Diamond Sports games/practices reserved 2,958 with 1,498 preps Turf Sports games/practices reserved 2,293 with 896 preps This equated to over 460,000 people attending/participating in scheduled events • The Botanical program has also grown and in downtown there were over 30,000 annual plants planted. In addition, approximately 3,000 sq ft of plants were grown in-house, and there were 11 shrub beds located in parks which were renovated over the summer. The Botanical Team maintains about 12 acres of medians. • The DAR has been working with the Cemetery Office over the last several years getting information on all of the gravestones in Grandview Cemetery. Board – On November 14 at the Ranch in Loveland, Joshua Taylor a nationally renowned genealogist is going to be speaking at the Conference for a Cause which is a fund raiser for the War of 1812 Preserve the Pensions and the Friday’s Council Tree Chapter, NSDAR Historic Marker Project at Grandview Cemetery Recreation Updates • Recreation Facilities have also been updated with recycling cans near the entrances with the help of Caitlin May. • Treatsylvania and Bow Wowvania will be taking place at the Farm at Lee Martinez October 23-25. • Hogwarts Halloween will be taking place on October 24 at Northside Aztlan Center from 6pm-9pm with the help of CSU volunteers. • There was a ribbon cutting for the new Quickstart Tennis Courts at Rolland Moore Park. This was a great collaborative effort between Parks, Park Planning and Recreation. The courts are designed for kids 10 and under. • Peggy Bowers’ retirement party will be on Wednesday, October 28 at the Senior Center. • There will be a presentation for all the volunteers that helped with the Senior Center Re-Accreditation. Board – Do you have an update on the Recreation Strategic Plan? Staff – I will give a presentation on Recreations Strategic Plan to the Board in January. Parks & Recreation Board Meeting – October 21, 2015 Page 3 of 3 Park Planning Updates • The design phase of the Poudre River Downtown project is in full swing. A complete survey was performed and studies are being done on how new Vine Drive properties may be incorporated into the project. • Avery Park refresh is moving forward and will likely include a lit shelter and landscaping enhancements. • The Arapaho Bends section of the Poudre Trail is complete; which is a 4 mile loop (3 miles paved and 1 mile crusher vine). Board – Where are you at with the renovation of City Park? Staff – We have been putting together a video to show we understand the historic value of City Park. Board – Are any historic elements coming back? Staff – We are looking at bringing the Trolley further into the park and creating a shelter with windows so when it’s not in use it can be viewed. Board Work Plan Items No Updates. Bicycle Advisory Board Liaison Update No report, meeting is scheduled for October 26. Where is the ghost bike that was on Kechter? The ghost bikes only stay up for one month. Schedule of Articles/Calendar An article is due on January 6 for the spring 2016 issue of the Recreator. Kelly Smith will be writing the article. 2016 deadlines:  March 21 for the summer issue  June 15 for the fall issue  September 29 for the winter issue Bullet Points • The Board updated their 2016 Work Plan and Meeting Schedule.
