HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014 - Natural Resources Advisory Board - Annual Report1 MEMORANDUM FROM THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS NATURAL RESOURCES ADVISORY BOARD DATE: January 6, 2015 TO: Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Harry Edwards on behalf of the Natural Resources Advisory Board SUBJECT: 2014 NRAB Annual Report In 2014, the City of Fort Collins Natural Resources Advisory Board (NRAB) held 12 regular meetings during which 48 agenda items were considered, 12 actions were taken and 10 related memoranda or reports were sent to the City Council. Joseph Piesman and Harry Edwards were elected chair and vice-chair respectively. Members of the NRAB served as designated representatives the following groups or projects: Bicycle Advisory subcommittee of the Transportation Board; West Nile Virus Advisory Panel; Nature in the City; and, Climate Action Plan Citizens Committee. Members of the NRAB, including the Chair, attended a various meetings regarding an ordinance limiting disposable shopping bags as well as several “Super Meetings” hosted by the Clerk’s Office to discuss issues of shared interest to advisory boards. The NRAB Chair and Vice-Chair participated in “5-Board Group” joint meetings related to updating the City Greenhouse Gas Reduction Goals and Energy Plan. Several field trips were made to Natural Areas along the Poudre River to review progress of re-vegetation work as well as concepts for Master Planning along the downtown reach of the river. The Table below lists the agenda items considered and the actions taken by the NRAB during 2014. The actions taken include memoranda related to: Climate Action Plan; the Federal Wilderness Act; Bird Habitat Designation; Disposable Shopping Bags; Community Recycling Center; Downtown Poudre River Master Plan; and budgeting issues. Areas of special emphasis to the NRAB in 2014 included: master planning for the Poudre River; implementation actions for the 2013 Road to Zero Waste; and, the process of updating the City’s Climate Action Plan. The NRAB had a productive year and we look forward to another year of service on behalf of the people of Fort Collins, as well as the environment and natural resources of Fort Collins.
