HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 - Womens Commission - Annual ReportCity of Fort Collins Women’s Commission 2015 Annual Report The City of Fort Collins Women’s Commission promotes decisions and actions that address the needs and positively impact women in our community. We do this by listening to the voice of women, advising city council, promoting community events, and educating ourselves and others about safety, health and poverty. Women’s Commission members in 2015 were Molly Alderton, Liz Donovan, Ginny Carroll, Catherine Douras, Lea Hanson, Huston Morse, Stacia Ryder, Annette Zacharias, and Heather Zoccali. In 2015, the Women’s Commission (WC) accomplished the following: • The WC held the sixth annual retreat on February 28, 2015, to discuss, review and plan the following: 1. Revisit subcommittees and determine roles, if any 2. Action items for 2015 (events i.e. Pride in the Park) 3. Plan proclamation collaboration with community organizations 4. Review of B&C Changes 5. Review of Work Plan 6. Review of Council’s Strategic Plan 7. Strategic Planning for Upcoming Year to align with Council’s strategic plan 8. Begin brainstorm for 2015 Board and Commission mixer (time, place, date) 9. Marcille N. Wood award for 2015 • The WC aligned their 2015 Work Plan with the City of Fort Collins seven Key Strategic Outcomes. • The WC invited the SANE coordinator, Elyse Diewald, to the January meeting to learn more about the locations and availability of exams. Lea Hanson met with the Senior Advisory Board regarding SANE exams. The WC continued to communicate with Diewald throughout the year. In December, the WC coordinated a clothing drive for SANE patients. • Catherine Douras attended the Super Meeting about housing on March 9 • The WC and SAVA partnered to present a proclamation at the March 17 City Council meeting • Several WC members attended Take Back the Night on April 23. • Stacia Ryder and Lea Hanson were members of the city’s It’s On Us campaign committee, Community wide bystander intervention awareness and education program addressing sexual assault. The program is an initiative from the White House and Fort Collins is first city to participate outside of college campuses. • The WC continued the dialogue with other Boards and Commissions by hosting a fifth breakfast mixer on May 19 • Liz Donovan attended the FoCo Futures Forum on June 24 • The WC completed the periodic Council Review on July 14 • Several members attended the It’s On Us launch on August 24 • The WC and Crossroads Safehouse partnered to present a proclamation at the October 6 City Council meeting • The WC partnered with WomenGive to present the Marcile N. Wood award in 2015. The Women’s Commission conducted the review process and assisted in the presentation at the event. The winner, Stephane Tillman, was announced at the WomenGive Event on October 8. • The WC was a presence at City Council meetings in 2015, with a Commission member attending almost every one. • The WC continued our membership with the National Association of Commissions for Women (NACW). Guests to meetings included: Elyse Diewald – SANE Coordinator, Medical Center of the Rockies Mark Jackson – Transportation Kristin Stephens – Councilmember, District 4 Bob Overbeck – Councilmember, District 1 Brittiany and Aaron Hoagland – Community members Bev Thurber – Early Childhood Council Ann Lance – Teaching Tree Alison Friedman – Women’s Foundation of Colorado Hannah Glebe, Claire O’Brien, and Liana Price-Foster – Poudre High School students The Women’s Commission continues to work toward better communication with City Council, collaboration with Boards and Commissions, and community relationships. The coordination of proclamations with SAVA and Crossroads, the Marcille N. Wood award with WomenGive and continued communication with Boards and Commissions are evidence of this work. To accomplish the goals set by the Women’s Commission, members attended and participated in numerous community events surrounding women’s issues. The Women’s Commission looks forward to supporting this process in 2016.
