HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 - Golf Board - Annual ReportGolf Administration 215 North Mason Street 3rdFloor PO Box 580 Fort Collins, CO 80522 970.416.2265 970.221.6586 - fax fcgov.com/golf GOLF BOARD 2015 ANNUAL REPORT The Golf Board advises and makes recommendations to the Director of Community Services and the City Council as to rules, regulations, policies, administrative and budgetary matters pertaining to the operation and maintenance of all City owned golf courses; City Park Nine, Collindale and SouthRidge. The City of Fort Collins Golf Board held 7 Regular Meetings in 2015. Board Members were, Ann Cross, Ashley Gruber, Johnny Hodges, Jason Patello, James Penland, Kevin Gallagher, Jim Snyder and John Lyttle. Kevin Gallagher resigned from the Board in June and John Lyttle was appointed to the Board. Jason Patello and John Lyttle’s terms expires in December. The Board elected officers were Johnny Hodges, Board Chairperson, along with James Snyder as Board Vice Chairperson and Kevin Gallagher as Board Secretary. In September James Penland was appointed as Board Secretary due to Kevin’s resignation. Gino Campana served as City Council Liaison to the Board. J.R. Schnelzer, Director of Parks along with Bill Whirty, Manager of Parks, Mike Calhoon, Parks Supervisor, Dawna Gorkowski, Parks Finance Supervisor and Dawn Worth, Golf Administrative Assistant, provided staff support to the Board. J.R. announced his retirement to the Board in June and informed the Board that Mike Calhoon was appointed as the new Director of Parks in July. 2015 Budget/Fees • The Board was updated and provided input on the Golf Division’s budget. • In September the Board held a Public Meeting to discuss the Proposed 2016 Golf Fees & Charges. • The Driving Ranges brought in more revenue than anticipated. Marketing • Staff continued to work with the Recreation Department’s Community Relations and Marketing staff on Golf marketing efforts. • Continued sponsorship with First National Bank and Dellenbach Cadillac which covered printing costs of the scorecards. • Worked with CPIO on course branding and will unveil during the holiday season of 2015. • Distributed golf surveys to area golfers to assist with course branding. • Continued marketing efforts for the Premier Card. In local publications, online and via social media. • The partnership with CSU continued and Golf will receive marketing opportunities at Moby Arena. • Golf and Recreation staff continued to utilize Social Media (Twitter and Facebook) to update golfers. Social media followers grew in 2015. • Continued with our Heat of the Day, Fall, Mother’s Day, Veteran’s Day Special & Winter coupons. Course Improvements • Continued support of the Master Tree Plan including Emerald Ash Borer preparation. • Upgraded the driving range at SouthRidge with a new artificial hitting surface. • Installed a new forward tee on hole #7 at City Park Nine. • Installed new forward tees on holes #3, 5, 9 & 10 at Collindale • New tee marker installation at SouthRidge is in progress. • Collindale rain shelters were renovated. Sustainable Practices • The Water Conservation item, which included the new sprinkler system for SouthRidge was removed from the BOB II ballot issue and alternative funding was discussed. • Collindale received full certification as a Cooperative Sanctuary through the Audubon International. Policies and Procedures • A Smoking Ordinance which prohibits smoking on the courses went into effect September 1 st . Golf Board Structure and Goals • The Board continued to be City Golf Course advocates. They will continue to promote and increase play, emphasizing juniors, while assuring affordability and service quality while supporting Golf as an Enterprise Fund. • Amendments were made to the Golf Board Bylaws after review with Cyril Vidergar, Assistant City Attorney. • The Board made amendments to their meeting schedule. Staff Updates • Dale Smigelsky, Collindale Golf Professional and Doug Perry, City Park Nine Golf Professional both placed in the Colorado Senior PGA Championship in August and played in the Senior PGA National Championship in California in October. • Dale Smigelsky, Collindale Golf Professional, was awarded the 2015 Colorado Senior PGA Champion.
