Magnolia St Fort Collins, CO 80521 970.221-6735 970.221-6373 – fax CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD WORK PLAN – 2016 VISION: The Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board envisions a community where art, music, performances and the stories of its people enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors. MISSION: The mission of the Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board is to advise City Council on cultural issues for the greater good of the Fort Collins community. Cultural resources are defined as intellectual and artistic achievements or expressions, including customs and civilizations of a particular time or people, all of which stimulate community potential and pride. OVERARCHING GOAL (OAG): The Cultural Resources Board will help make Fort Collins a cultural center and destination. STRATEGIC PLAN: This work plan meets several of the strategic objectives in the Cultural and Recreation key strategic outcome to “provide diverse cultural and recreational amenities” of the City’s Strategic Plan. Specific objectives are identified within the document in italics. STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE THE OVERARCHING GOAL AND STRATEGIC PLAN 1. Leverage available resources to the Board in forwarding the OAG. (Culture and Recreation Key Strategic Outcome: Provide diverse cultural and recreational amenities) • Ensure Fort Fund dollars support the overarching goal of “making Fort Collins a cultural center and destination,” encourage increased participation in arts and culture, and have a positive impact on the local economy. (Culture and Recreation Key Strategic Outcome: Provide diverse cultural and recreational amenities) • Administer Fort Fund.  Funding Session - January  Funding Session - April  Funding Session – June • Work with the Convention and Visitors Bureau when making recommendations for funding from the Tourism Account and for the Cultural Innovation Fund. • Continue to encourage grantees to effectively market their events by requiring marketing assistance to Tier 3 grantees. Request feedback from Tier 3 grantees and consultants on the effectiveness of the marketing assistance. Consider timing of Tier 3 review and events. (2.2. Develop effective marketing strategies that drive optimal attendance and revenue.) • Review and revise Fort Fund guidelines and procedures, as needed. 2. Serve as a catalyst for the development of Fort Collins as a cultural center and destination by working with City Council, staff and cultural groups. • Serve as a proactive voice in advising City Council on projects and issues related to arts and culture. (2.4. Maintain and enhance the current culture, recreation and parks systems.) o Fort Collins Museum of Discovery o Lincoln Center o Community Creative Center at the Carnegie o Downtown Fort Collins Creative District o Art in Public Places o Gardens on Spring Creek o Building on Basics II o Southeast Innovative Center • Stay apprised of any developments in pursuit of an SCFD or other potential funding options for arts and culture in Fort Collins. (2.3. Develop effective Operation and Maintenance (O&M) funding alternatives for City subsidized facilities and programs.) • Stay apprised of programs at the University Center for the Arts and opportunities for collaboration. • Stay apprised of cultural, art, and historical projects and activities. 3. Enhance regional awareness of Fort Collins’ arts and cultural events and activities. • Encourage and promote the Community Creative Center as a hub for the creative industry in the area. (2.4. Maintain and enhance the current culture, recreation and parks systems.) • Explore avenues for increased promotion of Fort Fund events. (2.2. Develop effective marketing strategies that drive optimal attendance and revenue.) • Encourage Fort Fund recipients to broaden their promotional reach. (2.2. Develop effective marketing strategies that drive optimal attendance and revenue.) • Submit a press release announcing Fort Fund grant awards to local media after Council approval. (2.2. Develop effective marketing strategies that drive optimal attendance and revenue.) • Ask grant recipients to help acknowledge Fort Fund and share with the Board when they’ve done so. 4. Provide networking opportunities for the exchange of ideas and resources. (2.6. Develop a clear strategic definition and description of the City’s role in the culture and arts while leveraging partnerships with other community organizations.) • Provide liaisons to the following groups to develop awareness of arts and culture in Fort Collins. These groups include, but aren’t limited to: Art in Public Places Board - Currently have a liaison. Visit Fort Collins - Currently have a liaison. Downtown Business Association – reestablish with as new leadership comes onboard. • Increase awareness of professional development and networking opportunities by disseminating information to grantees and the community. (2.6. Develop a clear strategic definition and description of the City’s role in the culture and arts while leveraging partnerships with other community organizations.)
