Art in Public Places (APP) is intended to encourage and enhance artistic expression and appreciation and to add value to the Fort Collins community through acquiring, exhibiting and maintaining public art. Goals: The principal goals of the art in public places program are: (1) To enrich the public environment for both residents and visitors through the visual arts. (2) To increase public access to works of art and to promote understanding and awareness of the visual arts in the public environment. (3) To promote a variety of artistic expression in the community. (4) To contribute to the community's civic pride in its cultural diversity. (5) To support visual art. Art in Public Places is a 1% program, meaning City capital projects with a budget over $250,000 designate 1% of their project budget for art. The City Council appointed APP Board plays a significant role in selecting artists and artwork, and makes recommendations to City Council for approval. Art donations are also handled through the APP Board, ensuring the City’s collection meets the highest standards. Ongoing and special projects for the APP Board in 2014: • The APP Board will continue to advise City Council on projects and programs relating to public art, design, and aesthetics • Advise City Council on BFO priorities • Review and make recommendations to City Council on all APP projects and city art donations • Advise and make recommendations for changes to rules, regulations, guidelines, policy, administrative, and budgetary matters pertaining to the APP Program • Continue to share best practices with other agencies, both locally and nationally on the Transformer Cabinet Mural & Pianos About Town Projects and our APP process • Review the APP art collection & consider enacting the new Deaccession Process with specific projects • Continue to promote the program with the APP website, promotional opportunities, and project maps • Encourage collaborations and outreach Linden St. Paver – Susan Dailey North College Monuments - Andy Dufford Radiant Park Medallions - Erick Johnson Current and Ongoing Projects: Twenty projects are currently in progress, or are annual projects.
