She reported that the stop in Longmont is located within walking distance of the Senior Center and Disabled Resource Services. Schlicting received a call from the City of Fort Collins. They have installed some new crosswalks and asked Schlicting if he knew of any visually impaired students who would use the crosswalks and provide feedback. Perry might be interested. Miller mentioned that the Mayors Awards usually take the place of the October COD meeting. This year we were unable to reserve a facility on the 2 nd Thursday, so the Mayor’s Awards will be the third Thursday. Previously the COD had voted to let the award ceremony take the place of the October meeting and continue the meeting in November. The 2 nd Thursday in November is Veteran’s Day and the 3 rd Thursday is Thanksgiving. The COD voted to meet October 14 th , as scheduled and not meet in November. All COD members present voted Aye. None opposed. 4. New Business (1 hour) a. Attendance Effective today, September 9, 2010, the COD will enforce the by-law that addresses the 3 consecutive, unexcused absence rule. Schlicting will send all COD members a letter stating that 3 consecutive, unexcused absences will result in member removal from the COD. Removed COD members are still welcome to attend meetings, but will not have voting power. b. Julianna Rigby Rigby owns an apartment in Park Lane Towers, located at 415 S. Howes Street, here in Fort Collins. There is a no-pet policy in place, however, service animals are sanctioned by the ADA. Rigby has a small service dog that does not meet the stereotype of a service animal. She feels she is being harassed and persecuted by other residents who feel the animal is a pet and in violation of the HOA. Rigby has documentation of service animal status, but certain residents refuse to acknowledge this and continue to harass her. She has felt verbally and physically threatened, however, the police cannot act until a law has been broken. It was suggested that she share her plight with The Coloradoan newspaper to bring attention to the matter. Miller will e-mail Rigby with contact information for the Center for Justice, Peace, and Environment (CJPE) to see if they can offer any assistance. 5. Old Business Sub-Committee Reports a. Number of COD Members The City Council has approved lowering the number of COD members to 9. The lower number will assist the COD to have quorum at more meetings. b. Mayor’s Awards Heuber has sent out 23 press release cards. There have been no nominations and the deadline is tomorrow (9/10/10). It has been suggested that the CoFC website is a little difficult to navigate, so members will endeavor to solicit handwritten nominations. Nominations will be accepted up until September 23, which is the next sub-committee meeting. Heuber has spoken with All Occasions Catering and has received an estimate for a luncheon for approximately 50. The estimate is under $1,000.00. Miller will contact KT at 24 Hour Sign Language Services to schedule an interpreter for the awards. c. JFK Parkway Schlicting has written letters and left a message for Joe Olson (CoFC Planner), but has had no response. Schlicting will review his attempts to contact Olson and provide Cozzens with the information. Cozzens will contact Olson. 6. Community News and Updates Schlicting will attend the City Council Meeting on October 5 th and accept the Mayor’s Proclamation declaring October 2010 as Disability Awareness Month. 7. Adjourn: 1:53pm
