ADA ACCESS & ACCOMMODATION Work Plan Item: Assigned To: Action Items: Outcome: Assist City boards and commissions (as listed in Addendum A) in ADA compliance and implementation. Commission members as identified in Addendum A. Receive agendas and minutes; attend meetings as necessary; promote COD positions; and report status to COD. Make generic list of who will be assigned to each board. Distribute list to boards every six months Early in year, get on agenda to introduce self as COD contact. Encourage and support efforts of City boards and commissions to be ADA compliant. Assist City departments in ADA compliance and implementation. Historian with assistance from the full commission as needed. Cosponsor the disability awareness panel in April. Invite department representatives to COD meetings (individually) for information sharing. Encourage and support efforts of City departments to be ADA compliant. II. COMMUNICATION & EDUCATION Work Plan Item: Assigned To: Action Items: Outcome Orientation for new COD members. COST: $40.00 COD Secretary & City Staff Liaison & Support Update Orientation Packet. Provide information and materials to new COD members. Update new members of current and past concerns and accomplishments of the COD. Annual COD Work Session Full Commission Develop following year work plan in November; invite City staff (optional). Team building focusing on developing unity, strength, excitement, and goals of COD; working draft of upcoming year’s work plan. COD Outreach with Local Service Agencies III. SUBCOMMITTEES Vice-Chairman with appointed sub- committee chair and ad hoc and/or full commission PRN Continually share Power Point & brochure with the public. Share information with city and county departments, other boards and commissions, local service agencies, and community groups. Public will have greater understanding of access issues in Fort Collins Sub-Item: Action Items: Outcomes: Heavy Doors (archives) Distribute heavy doors pamphlets and reinstate plan. Keep scales. Reduced barriers for people with disabilities. Employment (archives) Be of assistance to persons with disabilities who have questions regarding employment by referring to appropriate agencies in community. Coordinate with Larimer County Workforce Increase awareness of employment opportunities for the community of persons with disabilities community. And offer increased understanding of how to market to potential employers. Public Outreach Cosponsor the disability awareness panel in April. Increase community awareness. Community Access Practical Housing Educate public on barrier-free housing. Advocate a policy to encourage accessible residences. Media Relations Chairman & Assignee Keep & update a list of local media contacts and utilize the media to promote or discuss issues pertaining to people with disabilities. Encourage communication between the COD and the media; encourage inclusion of issues and items concerning people with disabilities. Art Awareness To be reviewed in January Create, organize and implement the Creative Abilities Art Show. Create a plan to highlight artists in our community. Review in January 2010. Mayor’s Awards Nominations and Event Cost: $1,500.00 Sub-Committee Chair and full commission as needed and City Staff Liaison & Support. Use and update list of agencies, businesses, and individuals to solicit nominations for Mayor’s Awards beginning in April. Plan and coordinate Mayor’s Awards event for October (Disability Awareness Month). Adjust notebook as needed. Collaborate with other agencies to stage event (if desired). Quality nominations received for deserving individuals. Host an event recognizing individuals, businesses, and service agencies exhibiting dedication to persons with disabilities. IV. POLICY & PROCEDURE Work Plan Item: Assigned To: Action Items: Outcome: Annual Review of COD By- Laws Executive Committee Review the By-laws for clarity and report to full commission if revisions are needed. Keep the By-laws current and understandable. Correspondence Staff Liaison and Support Issues statements or letters of commendation, recommendation or support (to agencies, businesses, and individuals). Include this in each month’s agenda. Represent COD as public contact. To recognize and support businesses and organizations for their efforts in providing accessibility to people with disabilities; also to point out to certain business areas that could be improved on behalf of patrons with disabilities. Outgoing Commission Member Recognition Cost: $350.00 City Staff Liaison and Support Plan event to recognize outgoing commission members. Thank you to outgoing members. Research mechanism for collecting and disbursing money for COD projects. Procedure for allocation of funds. Celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of persons with disabilities in our region. COD Vice-Chairman with assistance from full commission as needed. Update local service agencies list and draft letter of introduction/invitation to COD. Invite representative of local service agencies to COD meetings (topical). Establish connections with local providers of services; inform representatives of COD mission, activities, and goals. Create introduction letter to give to local service agencies with our brochure.
