HomeMy WebLinkAboutYouth Advisory Board - Minutes - 12/05/2012YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES Regular meeting – December 5th, 2012 6:30 p.m. Council Liaison: Aislinn Kottwitz Staff Liaison: Steve Budner, Recreation, 221-6861 Megan Greer, Recreation, 224-6032 Board Chairperson: Pranaya Sathe Board Members Present: Siyu Wu, Pranaya Sathe, Nathan Welch, Sarah Pruznick, Natalie Pederson, Patrice Quadrel, Langston Stuckey Board Member Absent: Kelsey Hennig Staff Members Present: Megan Greer, Administrator – Recreation Department Guest(s) Present: Myles Crane Call meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by President, Pranaya Sathe, at 6:35 p.m. Approval of Minutes: Minutes approved 6-0, motioned by Pranaya, seconded by Sarah. Introduction of new members None Agenda Review: None Citizen Participation: None Chairman’s Report: 1. Team Fort Collins is interested in meeting with the Youth Advisory Board and other employees at the Atzlan Center. 2. Pranaya stressed how much work needs to be done for the jobs fair Other Business: 1. The Youth Advisory Board met with Myles Crane and Karen Buchanan on Novemeber 15th to discuss potential collaboration between the boards. a. It was agreed that a lot got done and that it would be good going forward for the boards to collaborate more. 2. Jobs Fair Planning a. Voted 6-0 to hold the event with a panel discussion as well as having booths for different industries. b. Several groups were named as possible participants; including CSU, The City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, PVHS, and Fort Zed. Assignments were made to get in contact with these organizations and ask if they would be willing to participate. c. Several different venues were suggested, these included the Lincoln Center, CSU, and Fort Collins High School. d. A tentative date of Wednesday, April 17th has been set for the event. e. The name of the event will be “Jobs of the Future” f. Promotion of the event was discussed, Myles brought up the ideas of a Facebook event and radio advertisements being used to get the word out. g. 3 main questions were posed that the event should be focused on i. Where will the jobs be? ii. What do you need to study? iii. How do you get hired? 3. Nathan suggested the possibility of inviting a member of the City Council to the January 16th meeting. Ajournment: Pranaya moved to adjourn at 7:48 p.m. and Nathan seconded. Respectfully submitted, The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 16 th at 6:30 pm at North Aztlan Community Center, 112 E.
