They agreed to include the literature in the packets provided to attendees. The Commission decided not to pursue a booth this year, but to consider asking for one in 2009, when the event is held in Fort Collins. The Commission wants to add this event to their `009 workplan under Outreach. Shellie will confirm the date of the event, and will email Sue with the details of let Sue know the number of newsletter that are needed for packets and the deadline for getting them to the Senior Center staff. Sue and Pat will talk about inviting members of the Senior Advisory Board to attend the beginning of the meeting on the 15` to view this dvd. Depending on reactions, the Commission is considering sponsoring a showing of the dvd, coupled possibly with a speaker and discussion in 2009 as part of the education and outreach efforts. Marjorie offered Yvonne Meyers, with Columbine Health Center as a possible speaker. If the Commission wants to sponsor an event, Shellie offered to contact First National Bank and ask them to provide funding for refreshments. Suzanne reminded the Commission that they have some budget dollars left — about $600 through the end of the 2008. The Commission's 2009 budget is about $1200.00 The Commission agreed to discuss possible program options and whether a committee is needed to put everything together, after viewing the dvd at the October meeting. League of Women Voters Shellie asked if the Commission was interested in approaching the League of Women Voters to offer assistance in getting women registered and/or in encouraging them to vote in up coming elections. Becky reminded everyone that only 19 days remain before the deadline for registering. Shellie will contact the League and let them know that the Commission is interested in helping for the November election as well as future elections. Getting out the Vote The Commission discussed possible outreach opportunities for encouraging women to vote in the up coming election, including a letter to the editor of the Coloradoan and speaking at an up coming City Council meeting. Shellie volunteered to draft a letter to the editor and submit it to the Commission for review and for Pat's signature, as chair of the Commission. The Commission would like the letter printed on October 28. In addition, the Commission wants to have at least one representative attend the October 2l't City Council meeting to speak during "citizen input" to encourage all women to vote in the up coming election. Tentative speakers were identified as Shellie, Sue, and Annette. The Commission will work on the details of the speeches during the Oct. 15 meeting. Shellie recommended that Commission members work on the letter and the elements of the speeches between now and the October 15 Commission meeting, since the October agenda is getting full. Request for a representative for the United Way Solid Foundations Victim Intervention Committee Suzanne shared with the Commission a request that was received from United Way of Larimer County, asking the Women's Commission to appoint a member to serve on the Solid Foundations Victim Intervention Committee to assist with identifying funding strategies and making funding recommendations. Kristen will contact Joy at United Way to let her know about the appointment. Follow Up After the presentation by Susan Vance at the August meeting, the group discussed the possibility of hosting a program featuring Susan at the Harmony Library and inviting the public.. This led to further discussion about creating an education and outreach series, 3-4 times per year. Topics could include safety, health, etc. This suggestion has been tabled until the November meeting, for consideration in the '09 Work plan, under "outreach'. Shellie moved the meeting be adjourned.
