CItizen Participation: Kristie Blackmon, Recreation Co-ordinator, was present to discuss the Music Fest. Also a guest from CSU named Emily was present to write an article about the Youth Advisory Board for her journalism class. Chairman's report: None Other business: 1) Work plan — Since only 3 members were present, adoption of the work plan was postponed. Members need to come to the July meeting with 3 ideas. These can be the same ideas they had earlier or new ones. If there is time in the July meeting we will start on the work plan and finish up at the August retreat. 2) Music Fest — Everyone agreed that it was a success. Kristie said with skate boarders and band members there were over 400 people in attendance, with 159 paying admission. Some ideas for next year are to add a carnival & a battle of the bands with different age categories, eg. middle school, high school and college. Other ideas were a dunk tank with civic leaders being dunked and a food vendor. Kristie said that this event used to have a lot of activities like these, but over the years it was pared down to the skateboard competition and the band performances. Another suggestion was to have a fall festival also, but Steve suggested maybe holding off on that until the spring festival becomes larger. Some problems that occurred were trouble keeping the perimeter in check miscommunication about the entrance fee. More volunteers are needed and a snow fence would help with the Youth Advisory Board Minutes June 3, 2009 Page 2 perimeter. Brittany suggested advertising on KCSU and in surrounding towns. A date of Saturday, May 15, 2010 was suggested for next year's event. 3) The retreat will be on August 29 from 10 am — noon with lunch following the meeting. It will be comprised of team building exercises and finalizing and adopting the work plan. Because of the .retreat and scheduling conflicts with those members present, the regular August meeting on the 5`h is cancelled. 4) Brittany moved to approve the letter to City Council regarding adoption of the transit plan and Kelsey seconded it. (3-0). Steve and Carol will make style and grammar changes at which.time Kai will sign it. Steve will then send it to City Council 5) Steve handed out copies of the Youth area BFO offers. Board members need to read them before the next meeting. Brittany will write a letter endorsing the offers. This letter will be critiqued and approved at the July meeting. He also announced the Colorado Lottery ticket giveaway on June 12. He discussed the registration survey results with opening time of registration moving from 8 am to 7 am to allow working parents a better opportunity to register. 6) The July agenda will include a work plan update, ideas for the work plan, a BFO update, a letter of approval on the BFO offers and comments about the first day of school. 7) Due to conflicts with the 5 pm meeting time, the July meeting time will be changed. A meeting time of 10:30 am was agreed upon by those members who were present. Carol will survey those who were absent about this time. If it does not work for them, then we will return to the 5 pm meeting time. The meeting was adjourned at 6:07 pm. Respectfully submitted, 7GF/ Carol Fahring, Staff Support The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 1 at 10:30 am at Northside Aztlan Community Center at 112 E. Willow Street.
