BACKGROUND:
The Zoning Board of Appeals consists of seven members. Meetings are held the
second Thursday of every month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, The Board may
also meet as needed in order to convene special meetings.
Members who served in 2008 are Dwight Hall, David Shands, Michael Bello, Dana
McBride, Alison Dickson, Ron Daggett, and Jim Pisula. Dwight Hall and Dana McBride
served as chairperson and vice -chairperson, respectively. David Shands and Michael
Bello were appointed in December. 2007 and their terms beoan in January. 2008.
Council liaison to the Board during 2008 was Kelly Ohlson. Staff support was provided
by Peter Barnes, Lynn Suess and Paul Eckman.
2008 YEAR IN REVIEW:
During 2008, the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) acted on thirty-eight variance
requests to the City Land Use Code, compared to twenty-seven requests in
2007. Thirty-three of the variance requests were approved and five were denied.
Thirteen of the approved variances were granted with conditions. No decisions
of the Board were appealed to City Council.
In addition to the thirty-eight variance applications, the Board also spent time
reviewing proposed Land Use Code amendments and providing staff with
comments and input regarding the comprehensive code change ordinance.
