Minutes, October 14, 1974.
The Commission's meeting opened at 3:45 P.M. in the City Council Chambers. Those pre-
sent were: Jim Cox, Chairman; Elwin Hunter, June Bennett, Liston Leyendecker, Jan
Painter.
Discussion of Landmark Design - Ordinances:
- Changed to 180 day hold on property from original 90 days.
- Have had objections from home owners concerning selling and leasing portion of ordinance.
- Motion was made by Liston Leyendecker to:
Moved that the 180 day restriction (clause)
remain when applied to buildings in danger of
demolition; that the Commission's intent is not
to create any hardship for the potential lessor
or seller by forcing them to notify the Com-
mission (other than as a courtesy) each time
a landmark designated structure is leased or
sold.
De Sillio School Report by Bill Holmes:
- City Council decided they were not in financial position to purchase the school.
- Owners were told that City could not purchase but that the City did not want to lose
the school. -
- Meeting set up with owners, Wednesday, October 16, 1974, to discuss alternatives to
demolition (Owners - Roth Company of Denver).
- Monies from various private sources have been discussed as a possibility to save the school.
Water Works Report by Mr. Holmes:
- Has been placed as low priority item with Mr. Holmes and City Manager's Office, compared
with De Sillio School, Avery House, etc.
- Will not be destroyed; City will deal with this problem a little later.
Bi-Centennial Funds - Report by June Bennett:
- We have $600 in -hand ($400+in Foundation acc't and $200 with City, belonging to Landmark
Commission)
- Jr. Women's Club has agreed to put together historic cook book, but have no funds to pub-
lish it.
- Has been proposed: (a) Create founding patronships for the Poudre Landmark Foundation.
(b) Will ask for $1,500 in matching funds from the Bi-Centennial
Commission. (To match the patronship donations and the above $600)
(c) Commission voted to use $200 belonging to Commission for the above
matching fund plan.
Letter sent by Chairman Jim Cox to Sarah Bennett Library Board-
- Stating that the Landmark Commission wishes to make its position known to them concerning
the old library: That we do want the old library building to remain unaltered on the ex-
terior and certainly do not want the building demolished.

Jim Cox stated that a private party is interested in purchasing and preserving Mercy
Chapel if zoning problems can be handled.
Request from Cindy Emrich, State Historical Society, concerning our recommendations for the
old post office as a landmark. (Commission felt the old post office was rather low on the
list).
Need committee to study problems of applying building codes to adaptive restoration:

Committee to deal with Landmark Foundation:
Elwin Hunter
June Bennett
Landmark Priority Committee: (to report on plans for next 6 months)
