Call meeting to Order:
The regular meeting of the Youth Advisory Board was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Board chairperson
Josh Disney.
Approval of Minutes from Mav7, 2008:
On a motion by Caroline and seconded by Lisa, the minutes were approved unanimously (5-0).
Agenda Review:
There was no agenda review.
Citizen Participation: Mary Elizabeth Lenahan, Commission on Disablity. Mary Elizabeth introduced
herself as a liason from the Commission on Disability to the YAB. She wants the YAB to consider those
with disabilities as board members and also in youth programs. She also talked about the 2008 Mayor's
Award for exceptional dedication and service to persons with disabilities. The deadline for nominations is
September 22, and the award ceremony is Thursday, October 16 from 11:30 —1:00. The recipient also
receives a placque.
Chairman's report:
Josh graduated from high school and moved out on his own over the summer. He has been thinking a lot
about sustainability and would like to include something in this area in the speaker series.
Other business:
a. e-mail addresses, addresses and phone numbers of board members were updated.
b. Speaker series — Caroline verified that the speaker for the November meeting would be Nancy
Terry from Premier Mortgage to talk about credit scores and youth finances. She passed
around a press release to get input from other board members. The next step is to take it to the
communications office for release in the media.
c. Board & Commission Training Video — Caroline and Kai have watched the video and turned
in their completion form. Steve urged Josh to watch it soon.
d. Steve handed out a legal document about Boards and Commissions to each board member.
e. Steve talked about the Council/YAB training on September 27 from 9 am — 3 pm. Everyone
could go except Lisa, and they completed a registration form.

f. Teen Youth Summit— November 7-8. Feelings about attending were ambiguous. This item
was shelved until the October meeting.
g. Liasons — Carol will send a list of Boards and Commissions to Lisa and Vivian so they can
choose one.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:37.
Following adjournment Steve conducted a tour for the new members.
