SUMMARY OF MEETING: Conceptual reviews were presented for the replacement
of the awning canvas on 222 Walnut Street, the addition of a handicap ramp to the
Avery carriage house and the installation of a neon sign for Pasta J's. The
commissioners examined 63 historic inventory forms as part of the HRPP. Ms.
Tunner presented a Historic Preservation Week update. A special commission
meeting was scheduled for May 13 to review the local landmark designation of 125-
127 South College Avenue.
CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL:
Commission Vice Chair Bud Frick called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., 281 North College
Avenue. Jennifer Carpenter, Bud Frick, and James Tanner were present. Brian Janonis, Rheba
Massey, Rae Ann Todd and Ruth Weatherford were absent. Dick Beardmore of the Poudre
Landmark Foundation was a guest. Carol Tunner and Joe Frank represented staff.
CONCEPTUAL REVIEWS:
222 Walnut Street - Recover Awning Frame
The awning on 222 Walnut Street, Antiques Affinity, fell down during the last snow storm. The
business owner, Nean Svedman, proposes the same type of awning using the same frame, but
with a change of color to teal with three 48" grey stripes. Ms. Svedman was unable to attend
the meeting and staff made the presentation.
The Commission had questions on the appropriateness of the proposed teal color considering
Guidelines #23 and #12 that encourage coordinating the colors of the building, signs, awnings,
etc. The recommendation of the members present was to explain the guidelines to the applicant
and ask her to come to the next meeting to discuss the awning replacement.
Avery Carriage House - Add Handicap Ramp
Dick Beardmore of the Poudre Landmark Foundation presented the project for a conceptual
review. It was a proposed handicap ramp to be added to the north side of the Avery carriage
house at 108 North Meldrum.
Mr. Beardmore presented two very detailed scale drawings. Mr. Frick complimented the
applicant on a "model submittal."
Because the house was purchased with community block grant money, the State Historical
Society should review the proposal before the LPC can review it. Mr. Beardmore will return
for a final review on June 3.

Neon Sign - Pasta J's
The applicant has asked for approval of a neon sign similar to the one recently approved
administratively for the front window. The proposed sign will be located on the south end of
the building in the patio area and mounted with lag bolts into the mortar joints of the brick.
Mr. Frick asked that the applicant submit an elevation drawing or a better photo showing
dimensions from the sign to architectural features such as the window and height from the
ground.
Ms. Tunner will ask the applicant to submit this information. When adequate documentation
is received, Ms. Tunner will approve the sign administratively, if there are no other problems.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Review of 63 Historic Building Inventory Forms as Part of the HRPP .
The Commission examined 63 historic building forms as part of the HRPP. Commission
members and staff were very impressed with the detail presented in the surveys.
Preservation Week Update
Ms. Tunner spoke briefly on some of the highlights of Historic Preservation Week. The
National Trust Teleconference will be held on Saturday, May 9, 1992 in the CIC room in city
hall. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. Ms. Tunner reminded the Commission that the teleconference
will be an excellent training opportunity for them.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Mr. Frick received the Historical Preservation Week proclamation from Mayor Susan
Kirkpatrick on May 5, 1992.
Mr. Frank asked the Commission to call a special meeting to consider the local landmark
designation of 125-127 South College Avenue, the old Walgreen's building. The Commission
agreed to hold a special meeting on May 13, 1992 at 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Janonis arrived.
Mr. Frick adjourned the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
