HomeMy WebLinkAboutLandmark Preservation Commission - Minutes - 02/20/1985LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes of February 20, 1985 The meeting was called to order at 5,42 p.m. in the Council Office of New City Hall. Members present included Wayne Sundberg, Michael Ehler, Dick Beardmore and Carol Tunner. Staff present included Sherry Albertson -Clark, Edwina Echevarria and Kayla Ballard. Peck and Peck - 619 Old Town Square, Suite 137 Maurizio's - #19 Old Town Square, Suite 138 Request — Approval for awning and window signage Applicant - Old Town Associates Jim Reidhead and Hermina LaPoint, the applicants, spoke briefly regarding the signage proposed for Peck and Peck and presented photos of Peck and Peck's storefront and Maurizio's storefront. He stated the lettering on the windows of Peck and Peck's store were to be gold outlined in black and lettering of the logo on the awning is to be white. The awning would be centered over the door. Jim then presented Maurizio's awning and window signage proposal. He stated the logo in the window is proposed to be 6 inches in height and colored in black with white outline. The awning is also proposed to be 6 inch lettering in white. Maurizio's is also requesting neon tubing to be placed at a 45 degree angle in the upper left corner of the left window and the upper right corner of the right window. The proposed colors for the neon tubing are green, white and red. Jim added that Maurizio's is a junior women's clothing store. Carol questioned the size of the tubing. Jim replied that it was not quite determined but would be between 1/2 - 5/8 inch range. Dick questioned if the windows were the same size on either side of the door. Jim stated that they are the same size. Michael stated he was concerned about the lack of color representation of these two items. Wayne suggested to the Commission that these two items be conceptual review items. The Commission concurred. Dick moved for conceptual review approval of Maurizio's contingent upon the presentation of the size of the neon tubing, brightness of the tubing, whether the tubing is clear or translucent, and the presentation of color samples of the tubing and lettering. Michael seconded. Motion passed 4-0. Michael moved for conceptual approval of Peck and Peck as presented contingent upon approval of color chips. Dick seconded. Motion passed 4-0. Approval of February 6, 1985 Minutes The minutes were approved with the following corrections: On Page 2, 6th paragraph, this statement should read: "Carol stated that the building was built to be used as a bank but one of only a few remaining in that historic style.". On Page 4, 1st paragraph, the second sentence should read: "She added that very few are left and that to her, the most important architectural feature is the bank sign.". Other Business Wayne questioned if the goose appliques on Building G had been approved. Sherry replied that yes, they have been approved. Sherry read a letter she had written to Paul Wagner regarding the paint colors used at the storefront at 115 Linden. Sherry also read the letter from Hermina LaPoint regarding the renovative work being done on the Avery Building. Sherry stated she had received a letter from the State Historic Preservation office regarding the National Register designation of the Kissock Block. Carol moved for staff to draft a letter for this designation. Meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
