HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007 - Transportation Board - Annual ReportTRANSPORTATION BOARD 2007 ANNUAL REPORT RESULTS SHOWN BELOW EACH WORK PLAN ITEM The goal of the Transportation Board is to promote the implementation of a balanced transportation system that provides choice, mobility, access, congestion mitigation and safetyfor all people while achieving. ])Efficient and effective movement ofpeople and goods throughout the community; 2)A reduction in the rate of VMTgrowth to equal the rate ofpopulation growth; and 3)Enhanced mobility through emphasis of modal shifts. Advise City Council on transportation issues, planning and construction projects in a timely fashion • Made a positive recommendation on the North College Corridor Plan • Recommended adoption of the Fort Collins Bicycle Plan • Provided a letter on the 1-25 / 392 plan proposal recommending continuation with reservations and with addition of transit component • Recommended adoption of the Minor Amendments to the Master Street Plan II. Transportation Financing — explore financing options to address transportation needs, including, but not limited to, dedicated funding mechanisms • Members from the T-Board participated on the RTA committee and continue to contribute on the ongoing UniverCity Transit and Mobility Task Force • Supported changes to Dial -A -Ride and Transfort to reach a more sustainable service model • Recommended that the City join the Rocky Mountain Rail Authority • Participated in the public comment session of the BFO process • Raised concerns over budget cuts in the Pavement Management Program. III. Education and Outreach — reach out proactively to the community to both solicit input and educate regarding transportation issues that face the city • Studied Roundabouts and recommended continuation of design discussions for Shields and Harmony • Reviewed the Great Western Rail Industrial Park under development in Windsor and its potential impact on traffic in Fort Collins • Provided a Transportation Board representative to the Railroad Task Force • Provided a Transportation Board representative to the Climate Task Force • Provided a Transportation Board representative to the Poudre School District Choice Busing Committee Reviewed presentations on the North College Transportation and Redevelopment Plans and the Downtown River District project, and gave input on the transportation elements IV. Transportation Safety — Promote transportation safety as it affects all modes of transportation, via consideration of engineering, education and enforcement • Reviewed and commented on snow removal efforts last winter • Followed on the Safe Routes to School program • Participated in Roundabout discussions • Worked to engage Fort Collins Police on traffic and bicycle safety issues V. Regional Transportation — Build communication links with other transportation bodies in the city and region • Actively followed the RTA process and ongoing discussions in the MPO • Provided direct connection through a dual appointment to the Loveland Transportation Advisory Board • Reviewed presentation by Bob Briggs on the Front Range Passenger Rail study • Remains active in the UniverCity Phase II efforts
