Mason Room 1-A Attendees: Pat Lewis, Beth Etter, Barbara Goff, Stacey Arnold Members absent: Holli Kopp, Sue Baccari (excused) Liaisons present: Karen Gebhardt Liaisons absent: Marjorie McTaggart (excused) Chairperson Beth Etter called the meeting to order at 7:05pm. �V Izl�1�0% Commission Vacancies and New Appointments Commission members discussed the attributes they'd like to have in new members appointed by the City Council in December. These include: Willingness to have conversations in line with the Commission's work plan, and work on projects that impact women in Fort Collins Ability to attend Commission meetings and do some project work outside meetings Beth will be in touch with Council Liaison David Roy and share these thoughts with him. 2008 Workplan Commission members reviewed the workplan document that had been distributed via email. Additions to the document were discussed and agreed upon. Stacey moved acceptance of the workplan as discussed. Barb seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Next steps — Beth will make the changes to the document and forward a copy to Suzanne for distribution to the City Clerk's office. Approval of October minutes Barb moved approval of the minutes from the Commission's October meeting. Pat seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 2008 Chair Pat had been nominated for the '08 Chair of the Commission at the October meeting. The nomination process was put on hold until the November meeting. Pat agreed to serve as the '08 Chair. Stacey moved that Pat be the Chair for 2008. Barb seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Announcements from CSU Karen expressed a willingness to invite students from the Women's Studies program at CSU to attend Commission meetings. She'll follow up with the Commission to find a meeting date that works for the students and the Commission. Karen also announced that she anticipates leaving Fort Collins late Spring, 2008, which will leave an opening for someone else to serve as the Liaison with CSU's Women's Studies program. Essay Contest Update Pat will stay in touch with the private schools and the home school network — and will work with Holli to get contest details. Beth will contact Holli for an update. Women appointed to Boards and Commissions Vacancies The Commission is interested in encouraging City Council to increase the number of women appointed to fill Boards and Commissions vacancies. Stacey will review the list of Boards and Commissions along with the numbers of men/women on each one. The Commission will review this information at the December meeting. PSD Teen Parenting Program Beth provided a summary of her conversation with the staff person who runs the PSD Teen Parenting Program. The program serves 30-35 students each year. The program is 2 semesters long, and focuses on getting the teen mother through the crisis. Stacey will contact David in the PSD Budget department to find out where this program stands in terms of on -going funding. This information will be reviewed at the December meeting. The Commission expressed an interest in encouraging the School Board to continue providing services to teen parents and expectant parents. January/Feb Newsletter Topic: Affordable Housing Additional articles: Essay Contest and MNW Award Possible focus for the articles can be: housing costs related to income and jobs; housing issues facing women in Fort Collins Beth will contact the Affordable Housing Board for information Pat will contact Jennifer Rodriguez about her experiences in finding affordable housing in Fort Collins This information will be reviewed at the December meeting. Pat moved the meeting be adjourned. Stacey seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35pm.
