Call Meeting to Order Marcia Richards, Chair, called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. Marcia introduced Matt Jackson, the recently appointed Senior Advisory Board member. Each member of the SAB was introduced and described his/her liaison assignments. Public Participation — • Craig Foreman from Parks Planning presented an overview of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. • Betty Ann Husted, from the Winslow, reported that traffic counters/devices have been installed on either side of Centre Ave. at the intersection of Centre Ave. and Worthington Circle. This is most likely in response to the SAB's request that the Traffic Control Dept. address safety concerns due to increased traffic and speeds on Centre Ave. In addition, Betty Ann Husted expressed appreciation for the telephone response she received from Mayor Doug Hutchinson, and she reported that any misunderstandings have been resolved. III. Attendance — The attendance sheet was passed. IV. Correspondence — A. Anita Basham has invited Mayor Hutchison to attend the September SAB outreach meeting at the Sr. Center. He has agreed to speak briefly at the beginning of the 1:30 p.m. meeting. Anita suggested that his remarks might address the role of the SAB in serving as a connection between the public and the City Council. B. The SAB has received a Nomination Form for the Senior Service Award to be presented at the Bridging the Gap event on Sept. 26 h. Anita Basham made a motion that the SAB nominate Peggy McGough for this award. The motion was seconded by Kathy Schuster. The motion passed. Marcia Richards will submit a letter nominating Peggy McGough for the award by the August 29`" deadline. C. Kathy Schuster wrote a note to Jason Kosena, the reporter from the Coloradoan, thanking him for attending the July SAB meeting. V. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Peggy McGough to accept the minutes of the July 11, 2007 meeting as corrected. Bud Herin seconded the motion. The motion carried. VI. New Business A. The October 10a' SAB meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Medical Center of the Rockies. Group transportation from the Sr. Center will be provided, although the departure time has not yet been confirmed. Doug Faus, VP of Operations, will speak briefly at the beginning of the meeting. A tour of the facility will be given prior to the meeting or immediately following the meeting. The exact time schedule is to be determined at the Sept. SAB meeting. IX. Old Business A. Liaison Reports Peggy McGough: • The Osher Life Long Learning Center has a similar program but the Front Range Forum does not feel there will be a negative impact on their existing program. • The completion date for the Northside Atzlan Community Center is behind schedule. Applications for council board members are currently being accepted. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. • The schedule moniters in the Senior Center are now operable. • A new logo for the City of Fort Collins is being developed. • After they meet with an accountant, the Fort Collins Sr. Center Expansion Committee will be meeting with an attorney, who will work with them in preparing the application for a 501 C3 status. • Table hosts/hostesses are needed for the Bridging the Gap event. Registration fees for SAB members who attend will be paid by the Board. However, should a SAB member make a reservation and fail to attend, he/she must reimburse the Board for the registration fee. A sign-up sheet was passed around. Upcoming Events are: Senior Law Day — August 1la' Summer Fest — August 15a' Salute to Seniors — Sept. 12a' Cemetery Stroll — Sept. 15a' Sundance Festival — Sept. 23`d Anita Basham reported on the activities at the Transportation Board meeting in July. At the meeting, she met a member of PTAG (Public Transit Action Group). PTAG is a recently formed volunteer group who are looking at the transportation needs for seniors. They were active on the Dial -A -Ride issue this past budget season. They would like to come and speak to the SAB about what they are doing. Marjorie McTaggart (submitted a written report after the meeting) on the activities of the Office on Aging. • July meeting- 4 new members were introduced. Discussion was held regarding unknown replacement for Commissioner Wagner (liaison to OOA Council). • Loveland SAB update on phone hotline info. • Yellow Books updated and are going to the printers. • Centenarian program is asking for adults who are about to be 100 years or older. • There is a shortage of assisted living places that will accept Medicaid. • OOA received Colorado Trust grant of $240,000 over 4 years. The first $60,000 was received in May and most has been allocated to programs such as VOA's "Caring Companions." B. Sept. 12a' SAB outreach meeting at Senior Center 1. Luncheon with Sr. Center Council will be at 12:30 p.m. 2. The Mayor will speak at 1:30 pm. 3. Introductory remarks will be given by Marcia Richards. 4. Kathy Schuster will hand out evaluation forms and pencils at the beginning of the meeting; they will be collected at the break, prior to the regular business meeting. C. To date, there has not been an article about the Senior Advisory Board in the Coloradoan as a result of the reporter's visit to July 1 la' SAB meeting. D. Update on SAB business cards — Peggy reported that the City is in the progress of changing the city logo. She collected the name, phone number, and e-mail address of each board member. As soon as the logo is adopted, Peggy Bowers will obtain cards for all SAB members. E. Bridging the Gap Senior Network Luncheon — Peggy McGough reported the event will be held September 26, 2007 at the Fort Collins Senior Center. Board members are encouraged to attend and to serve as table hosts/hostesses, if possible. F. Chili Cook -off will be Sept. 23 d from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bud Herin requested help preparing, cooking and serving the chili. Kathy Schuster offered to cut up the meat the day before. Pat Moore will purchase the ingredients and board members are to reimburse her. The cooks are to check in at 9 a.m. Bud will pay the entrance fee. Donations for cook bags are needed; board members should bring donated items to the next SAB meeting. XI. Other Business • Peggy McGough has anew e-mail: bmcgough7@comcast.net. • Marjorie McTaggart will be moving to The Worthington. XII. Adjourn Meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm.
