Call Meeting to Order: Chair Bud Herin called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. II. Attendance A quorum was present. III. Presentation to residents of Good Samaritan Village. There were no residents present; however, the board gave the presentation for new members to hear. III. Public Participation IV. Approval of Minutes — January 11, 2006 Peggy McGough made a motion to accept the February 8, 2006 minutes as written, Marjorie McTaggart seconded the motion. Motion carried. V. Correspondence Letter was received from patient who tried to use Dial -A -Ride for a ride home and was given wrong information. Peggy McGough followed up with this by calling Karen Snyder, with Transportation, and e-mailed her the document. Karen thought that all the Dial -A -Ride people were informed. Information will be put into the church letter. Marjorie suggested writing a letter to the editor, Jim Downey agreed to do this. VII. Old Business A. Bridging the Gap - Kathy - Bridging the Gap will be held at McKee. Discussion was held on not having so much marketing instead have networking. Letters will be sent out encouraging vendors to have more education and not such big displays. The Senior Center has been reserved for 2007. B. Senior Law Day - August 18, 2006 from 9am to Ipm at First Presbyterian church. Barbara suggested calling Aspen Club to encourage them not to hold the senior event at the ranch on same date, Jim will call them. C. 2006 meeting with City Council - This is an opportunity for Council members and Board members to meet each other and to connect names with faces. It gives them opportunities to discuss with council issues regarding aging without making a formal presentation with a formal agenda. If a formal agenda is set there will probably be less participation. D. Committee report for fund raising matching funds for Senior Center expansion - Will be discussed at next meeting. E. Senior Center Name Change - Dianne Heath - Dianne explained why people wanted the name of the Fort Collins Senior Center changed and the work that has been done towards this. Everyone agreed that focus groups would be good. Steve Budner will be invited to the next meeting to talk about the name change. F. Update on crosswalk and Shields and Raintree/Centre - A light has been put in to allow people time to cross Raintree. Bud wrote a thumb up for Eric Bracke to the Coloradoan. Barbara suggested writing a letter to businesses that would be using the crossing explaining that there is a new light and who is responsible for getting it. F. Report from attendees to the board member training. - Everyone felt that the training was very informative and helpful. H. Other • Jim Downey - Nomination for Human Relations Award - 2 references are needed and they must be board members Bud and Peggy volunteered • Jim Downey is the liaison for the Human Relations Board. Issues have been the Human Rights office and been disbanded and the Human Rights Protection ordinance failed. • Human Relations Award breakfast will be May 2, 2006. VIII. New Business A. Liaison reports 1. RSVP -Kathy 2. AARP - James Downey - • Executive Director of the Coloradoan will be at the next meeting discussing senior issues. 3. TRIAD - Marjorie McTaggart • Meetings held same day and time (41n Wed. 9a.m.) but moved for next 3 months to BBBB offices in Windsor no man's land! • Still working on county DNR instructions given emergency responders. Some are okay with bracelets, others require State "blue form". (one rep said they are trained to NOT open wallets or purses)! • Fire department personnel are not allowed to open wallets or purses. Police and hospital personnel can. 4. VOA - Marjorie McTaggart • PVH has indicated they don't want to continue furnishing congregate meals. With OOA's help they are looking for cooking sites - possibly Loveland. 5. Women's Commission - Marjorie McTaggart • The new contact person is Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson. • They are busy with this month's Women's History month. a. Declaration made at City Council meeting 3/7/06. b. Jr. High school essay contest awards will be at PSD March 271n c. Marcille Wood award nominees being accepted now. 6. OOA - Marjorie McTaggart • Their current obsession is Medicare Part D prescription drug program disaster. Using general funds for individual cases, as is Foundation on Aging. • Starting to work on their 4-year plan. Federal budget indicates reduction of funds for Older American programs. Tax work -off program has received almost 100 applications. One-third will have to be turned away. • A new Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) position is now housed in OOA. Interviews were held in February. • April meeting to be held at Harmony Library (2"d Tuesday). • Co -sponsoring Job Fair 4/20/06 at Fort Collins Senior Center. Peggy McGough • Update on Parkinson's Medication PACT should be available by the end of the year. • Peggy attended the Pioneer 100 year's celebrations at the Northern Hotel on Feb. 25. • Viewed the new Spanjer housing between Harmony & Horse tooth on Timberline "Sunstone" 1. No step from garage to house - concrete ramp. 2. Wheelchair/scooter wide doors & halls. 3. No raise or lip into shower. 4. e-star home - energy efficient. 5. Viewed "Life Goes On" Events at the Senior Center are: Senior Law Day, Community Homecoming CSU Theme (no date yet), Writer's Coffeehouse, Cemetery Stroll will be featuring pioneers from Fort Collins (September 16"i), Celebrate Japan Opportunities, Elvis. VII. Other Business/Announcements A. Introduction of new Senior Advisory Board member - Matt Malcolm B. Senior Job Fair at the Fort Collins Senior Center, April 20, 2006 Marjorie announced that the 2"d edition of "Mountain Scribe Anthology" is starting to take shape. The committee has met twice to decide on deadlines. Anyone with affiliation with the Senior Center will be invited to submit stories or poetry. C. Chili Cook Off is October 14, 2006 X.
