HomeMy WebLinkAboutLiquor Licensing Authority - Minutes - 09/26/2005LIQUOR LICENSING AUTHORITY MINUTES Regular Meeting - September 26, 2005 1:00 p.m. Staff Liaison: Aimee Jensen A regular meeting of the Liquor Licensing Authority was held on September 26, 2005 in Municipal Court, Justice Center, 201 LaPorte. Judge Kathleen M. Lane presiding. Staff in attendance: Teresa Ablao, Assistant City Attorney Aimee Jensen, Deputy City Clerk Robert Younger, Liquor Enforcement Officer Agenda Review Deputy City Clerk Jensen stated that the modification of premise application from High Plains Management, LLC, dba Tailgate Tommy's has been continued to November 7, 2005. Consent Agenda The Consent Agenda is intended to expedite the meeting and allow the Authority to spend its time on important items on an agenda. Items on the Consent Agenda are (1) routine items; and (2) those of no perceived controversy. Anyone may request that an item be "pulled" off the Consent Agenda and considered separately. Items pulled from the Consent Agenda will be considered under "Other Business" at the end of the meeting. a. Consideration of Minutes from August 22, 2005. Judge Lane adopted the Consent Agenda. Transfer of Ownership of Sushi by Kevin, 126 West Laurel Street, from Sushi by Kevin, LLC to Zahakis, Inc., and Trade Name Change to Pizza Casbah. Approved Konstantinos Zahakis, representing Zahakis, Inc., stated he has attended TIP's training in 1999 and will attend another TIP's class. He briefly described the premises. Mr. Zahakis stated he will require all his employees to attend training. He stated that they will card every patron that orders alcohol. Mr. Zahakis stated he would probably terminate any employee found in violation of the liquor code. He stated he does not have a current copy of the liquor code on premise. Mr. Zahakis stated approximately that 70% of his patrons have requested that he serve alcohol. He stated he will not be serving pitchers of beer. Mr. Zahakis stated they have seating for 45 days. He stated he will provide Deputy City Clerk Jensen with a new diagram. September 26, 2005 Judge Lane approved the Transfer of Ownership of Sushi by Kevin,126 West Laurel Street, from Sushi by Kevin, LLC to Zahakis, Inc., and Trade name Change to Pizza Casbah. Hearing on a New Application from TAS, Inc., for a Hotel -Restaurant Liquor License at Somi's.1544 Oakridge Drive, Approved Sheri Palmer, representative, was sworn. She stated she and her general manager will attend TIP's training. Ms. Palmer briefly described her background. She stated that her foods sales will be approximately 70%. Ms. Palmer stated that there is enough seating for 195 inside and 16 on the patio. She detailed the licensed premise. Ms. Palmer stated she will assign wait staff to monitor the patio. She stated she will only be making cosmetic changes to the premise. Ms. Palmer stated she will be hiring 40-45 employees of which 20-25 employees will directly be involved with the sale and service of alcohol. She stated patrons ordering alcohol who appear to be 40 or under will be carded. Ms. Palmer stated she has a copy of the current liquor code on premise. Ms. Palmer briefly described the petitioning process. She stated she received many positive comments in support of this application. Ms. Palmer stated she received a few comments in opposition of this application, but that they refused to sign the petition. Judge Lane entered the petitions as Exhibit 1. Judge Lane adopted Resolution 2005-18 approving an application from TAS, Inc., for a hotel -restaurant liquor license at Somi's, 1544 Oakridge Drive, contingent upon receipt by Deputy City Clerk Jensen of proof of TIP's training.
