Ontiveros Minutes--Meetinq Human Relations Commission May 12, 1981 Absent Staff Chairman B. Jensen Myron Lloyd U. Weiss Roll Call II. Approval of last month's minutes III. Guest speaker Calvin Harvey was unable to attend. IV. Old Business Discussion of ex -offenders General consensus was that more research is needed. Question on City application about conviction is to be explored further. HRC Award Shoemaker submitted a draft of suggested award criteria. Discussion ensued on procedures for giving the award . Liebert will check it out with council, seeking their input and approval. He will report back at the next meeting. Boards and Commissions Outreach Ontiveros reported that subcommittee had contacted several groups and organizations informing them of Boards and Commission openings and opportunity to serve. New Business Reappointment to HRC Commissioner Mack expressed interest in continued appointment to the HRC. Liebert read a letter to Mayor Wilmarth requesting that all three expiring term HRC members be reappointed. Handicapped Advisory Council Application for Gerald Getlin for Handicapped Advisory Committee was approved by the HRC. There was a general uneasiness about HRC's role in approval of such applications. Liebert will attempt to get clarification of relationship between HAC and HRC. i New Business -Handicapped Advisory Council, continued It's the feeling of the Commission that Council should allow the Handicapped Advisory Committee to be a separate Board. Liebert presented a letter and articles from The Coloradoan on gay awareness. The letter was a copy of one sent to the paper and was signed by "A humanist". A phone call was also made to Liebert from this person asking if the HRC could do anything on this issue as this person felt that acceptance of such advertising material was a form of an editorial. Discussion followed. Liebert will write a letter to The Coloradoan expressing HRC's concern about their acceptance of the ad. Next meeting will be held in the Police Training Room on June 16, 1981 (Old Council Chambers, City Hall; 5-7 p.m.
