HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 01/19/1971FORT COLLINS PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD Minutes - January 19, 1971 The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Board was opened at 7:00 p.m. by vice-chairman Gary Garwood. The minutes of the November meeting were approved. Mr. Wes Sargent reported that Club Tics has been closed because of needed re- pairs to the bulldine. A Valentine dance is being planned. He stated that he believes Club Tico should be reorgandsed by dissolving the present board and either electing of appointing a new one.. Dr. Al Pattine moved that Mr. Sargent investigate Club Tico thoroughly including checking with the schools, the students and others; and that the present board be dissolved and another comprehensive plan be prepared. Mr. William Chilton amended the motion to include the provision that the board be dissolved in sufficient time to elect another Loard before the end of the school year. Mrs. W. 0. Eddy seconded this motion. The motion was further emended that Club Tico should be run on a limited basis until a pemanent plan is adopted. The motion carried. Mr.. Sargent presented a report on the use of public.school buildings for recreaticaal purposes. All winter programa are full to capacity. A new basketball league has been formed to fill desande, and there is nou a basket- ball program for women. Miss Jean Helburg announced that there will be an exhibition basketball game for women at Dunn School on Wednesday, January 27. M_-. Sargent reported that Mrs. John Power, representing the RepublLcan woman, would like to have ideas for a project her group might raise money for., Mrs. Eddy was appointed to work with Mrs. Power*:another board member, and a staff. member to suggest a proposal. Mr. Robert Dunn reported that the swimming pool committee had presented its plan for a new pool to the Poudre 2-1 Board of Education. He will have a report on the decision of the Board at the February meeting. Mr. Sar;;ent reported that a representative for the White Surf swim team has requested the Board to hire a coach for that team. Ito action was taken on this request. Mr. H. R. Phillips reported that major repairs have been made on the swimming pool at City Park and more are planned in order to meet steadard& required by the State Department of Health. He also stated that speciflcl�tlans nre being prepared for construction of tennis courts at Edora Park; a cca:aession si:and and storage area are being built; phase IV of the City Park sprinkler system is being built. A professional has been hired to enforce the tree ordinance; the now golf course Is being readied for spring; there is a plan to build a floating island in the laece at City Park.
