HRC Members present HRC Members absent with notification HRC Members absent without notification Staff Members present: Human Relations Commission was held on Mav 10 the CIC Room, 300 Dan Devine, Mary Gomez, Ingrid Kolstoe, Bob Lenk, Richard Miller, Man Oberoi, Parker Preble Shion Hung Rita Klepac Angelina Powell, HRC Staff Liaison I. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairperson Ingrid Kolstoe at 5:31 p.m. (With prior notification Chair Bob Lenk arrived late at 6:20 p.m.) II. Approval of Minutes. Vice Chair Ingrid Kolstoe asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held on April 12, 2001. Man Oberoi made a motion to approve. Mary Gomez seconded the motion. The minutes were approved unanimously. III. Subcommittees. The following subcommittees reported activity since the last regular commission meeting: Diversity Subcommittee. The subcommittee met on April 25. Chair Mary Gomez is working with Karla Smith in the City Clerk's office to get information about the ethnicity of applicants for Board & Commission positions. The subcommittee members would like to assess the results on how successful the City's been in drawing representation from our diverse populations. At their next schedule meeting, they will informally review their work plan. Human Relations Award Subcommittee. HRC members wanted to commend subcommittee members on the successful 2001 Nomination/Awards Breakfast process. Subcommittee Chair Dan Devine agreed with the commission's assessment of the success of the process. He added his thanks to individuals who took lead on many tasks. Dan will add notes to the file for improving the 2002 process under the direction of new Chair Shion Hung. The web pages that describe the process and past winners will remain on the City's web site throughout the year with information that the 2002 process begins again in January 2002. Human Relations Comtsion Page 2 Human Resource Grants Committee. Bob Leak received information from Deputy City Manager Diane Jones relative to the grant allocations made by Latimer County Human Services Department t on behalf of the City of Fort Collins. For those commission members who did not receive 1999 and 2000 allocation information from Bob, copies will be available at the meeting on June 14. Police Subcommitee. New Chair Rich Miller met with Past Chair Mary Gomez for an orientation of the Police Subcommittee. Rich plans to contact the HRC's Police Liaison, Lt. Karen Carlson, and to attend the next meeting of the Citizen Review Board IV. Old Business. Chair Bob Lenk penned the first draft of the Periodic Review. He asked for suggestions for improvements. New members expressed reservations about providing input on a process that is relatively new to them. They are relying on members who have history on the commission to take a lead in answering questions posed by City Council in their review of the Human Relations Commission. Bob Lenk asked Angelina to get copies of the City Code that refers to the HRC and distributed copies to the members. A small work group will meet to work on the next draft. That draft will be reviewed by the commission on June 14. With commission approval, Angelina will work to make the Clerk's deadline of July 9, 2001. V. New Business. Commissioners shared information about various events taking place in the community related to diversity. • They asked Angelina to contact Barb Spalding to request receiving a copy of the monthly multicultural activity calendar for distribution to the Commission. VI. Adjournment. Dan Devine made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Bob Leak seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned by Vice Chair Ingrid Kolstoe at 6:40 p.m.
