HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 - Downtown Development Authority - Annual Reporti 0 ddoDOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY Downtown Development Authority 2002 Annual Report In 2002, the Downtown Development Authority: • Worked with the City to put newspaper vending machines into corrals; • Continued to work with the Downtown Business Association on projects beneficial to the central business district; • Agreed to participate in the public improvements associated with the redevelopment of the Chamber of Commerce building; • Participated with the City in the selection of a consultant to write a Downtown Strategic Plan and worked with City Staff in the management of the plan's development (ongoing); • Funded stone park benches in conjunction with the annual Riverfest celebration; • Hired a new executive director; • Addressed numerous behavioral problems occurring in Old Town Square by working with the City on new ordinances affecting hours of operation, trespassing, obstructing passageways, bodily wastes, and the improper use of water fountains; • Committed to help fund an interactive play area in Old Town Square; • Worked with the City on addressing new approaches to maintenance issues in Old Town Square and all of downtown; • Agreed to participate in the public improvements associated with the redevelopment of 223 North College Avenue; • Participated in the funding of Porta-lets as a temporary bathrooms for downtown; • Revised its patio licensing policies; • Agreed to participate in public improvements associated with the redevelopment of Austin's Restaurant; • Approved the creation of a web page for the DDA.
