Minutes, May 180 1971
The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Coiling Parke and Recreation Advisory
Board was opened at 7:00 p.m. by the chairman, Mr. C. W. Peterson.
The minutes of the April meeting were approved.
Dr. Pobert Pike reported as chairman of the commission appointed by Poudre R-1
Board of Education on athletic facilities. Colorado Field, at CSU, will be
available for an indefinite period for lease by Poudre R-1 for high school
football games. At the present time it does not seem feasible to make a com-
mitment to use Hughes Stadium because of the expense of lighting the field and
installing an artificial turf and because of its limited use for Poudre R-1
needs.
Mrs. Reglund, Dr. Juanita Garcia, and Randy Each from the Committee on Drug
Education (CODE) requested permission to rent Club Tico for a fund-raising dance
sponsored by CODE. Upon motion by Mrs. Eddy, seconded by Mr. Southwick, this
request was denied. The motion carried. Thera is a long-standing policy by
the Board not to rent Club Tico to outside groups. The suggestion was made to
the CODE representatives that they tyy to rent other facilities for their project.
Dr. Pike presented a new park plan which has been originated by the Landmark
Preservation Committee. Old Camp Collins has been designated as a historical
landmark. Radio Station KIIX has offered to support the resotoration of.this
landmark and the construction of a park surrounding it.
Mr. Phillips request the Board to review the 1972 budget before it is submitted
to City Council.
Mrs. H`lberg reported that City Council made funds available to support 24 teams
in the Ponytail League.
Mr. Sargent reported that all eummer programs are either started or ready to
start and that new scoreboards for the baseball diamonds have been installed.
Edora Park is bein$oompleted; three new tennis courts will be constructed there
by early summer. Dr. Robert Pike and Mr. Don Southwick were appointed as a
committee to plan a park dedication.
There was discussion about other parks being planned: 46 acres on South Shields
and a park on the newly -annexed Brown farm. The golf course will be opened on
June 12.
The meeting was adjourned.
