Minutes,
The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was
held February 22, 1972. The meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. by the chairman,
Mr. C. W. Peterson.
Mr. H. R. Phillips presented a structural report on Lincoln Junior High School
which had been prepared by the consulting engineers. Reports are still due on
the boiler and electric system. ?base 2 of the report will include studies on
population, traffic, etc., and will recommend uses for the building. Soils
testa will be made for possible swimming pool construction. The report will
be presented to the City Council for acceptance or rejection and for further
direction on the use of the building and site. The report will then be pre-
sented to the Poudre R-1 Board of Education. Committee members for this project
are Dr. Robert Pike, Mr. Don Southwick, Mrs. Clara Donohoe, and Mr. Paul Huff.
Mrs. Jean Helburg reported on decopage and yarn classes offered for women in
the courunity. She will conduct a survey to determine other interests of women.
Pre-school classes which include creative play and crafts are being held in the
City Park Community House under the leadership of the intern. Roller skating
on a limited basis has been offered for fifth and sixth grade girls.
Mr. Wes Sargent reported on a program for senior citizens which in being held
in Club Tics during daytime hours when the club is not used by youth groups.
General social activities, shuffle board, dancing, and tripe are included in this
program which is attracting wide interest among senior citizens. The youth club
is now under the direction of Tom Frasier. It will be reorganized and possibly
will have a new name.
Mr. Phillips reported that the Warren Lake area is not available for recreation
development at this time and that he is still looking for a water recreation spot
Three thousand feet of pipe has been donated for construction of baseball fields
at Warren Park and Rdora Park.
There wad discussion about the park development fund from developers. A report
will be given to City Council about fees being paid in other communities for
park development. Reports are also being developed by CSU students doing
research in this area and also indoor swimming pools.
Mr. Phillips also stated that bids are out for spribkling systems for City Park
and Edora Park.
Mr. Frank Cutting will be invited to a future meeting to discuss his plans for
a pony and horseback riding program.
It was reported that Mr. Les Yveritt has donated a storage building for Little
League equipment.

with playground pronrnms. Since this to a'aew and a non -budgeted program, Mr.
Robert Dunn moved that the Board approve the program and request City Council
to approve and .fund the program. Mrs. Gladys Eddy seconded the motion which
was passed unanimously.
