HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 03/21/1972FCTOLLINS PARYS AND RECREATION AL*RY BOARD Minutes, March 21, 1972 The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held March 22, 1972, with the meeting chaited by Mr. C. W. Peterson opening at 7:00 P.M. 11 Mr. Wes Sargent reported that a lady has been hired to assist at Club Tico. Mr. Tom Frasier reported that between 25 and 30 senior citizens per day attend Club Tico to enjoy recreational activities provided for them. The Boulder program for trips for senior citizens was explained by Mr. Sargent. He is planning to investigate Title III programs available for this group. Remodel- ing of Club Tico is progressing and will include a new fast-food service, a coat room, a dining area, and a game room partitioned off from the dance floor. Mrs. Jean Helburg reported that another session fo- pre-schoolers will be held two days a week for a two-hour period in the Community House. Women*s slim- nastics and macrame classes are being started. The summer crafts program for young people is to be modified by offering a variety of activities for three hours a day. The playground program will be offered for an 8-week period for children from five to twelve years of age. It was suggested that fees for tumbling and archery be charged to make the activtties more meaningful and more nearly self-supporting. Mrs. Clara Donohoe moved that a $3.00 fee be charged to each participant in tumbling and archery Dr. Al Pettine seconded this motion which was carried. Dr. Robert Pike reported on the Lincoln Junior High School feasibility study which has been given to City Council. The consulting firm will have a final {' report at a later date. l Mr. Gary Garwood reported that the golf program is going well. Mr. H. R Phillips showed design plans from a CSU horticulture class for park and open apace areas for Warren Park and the new light and power substation. Warren Lake is not currently available for city recreation use. The Trooper and Trooperette programs have not yet been presented to City Council and the Board reinforced its recommendation for approval of the program. Mrs. Gladys Eddy reported that the Colorado Youth Tennis Foundation has selected Fort Collins to receive financial support to expand the youth tennis program, If arrangements can be worked out which will be acceptable and satisfactory for this program to be coordinated with the recreation program, the offer will be accepted. The April meeting will be held in the City Council chambers to accommodate a class from CSU. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Presento Mr. C. W.
