HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 04/17/1973'j ( FORT COLLINS PARKS' AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT ADV1ISORY BOARD Minutes April 17, 1973 The meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and,Recreation Advisory Board was held in the Fort Collins City Council meeting room to accommodate the outdoor recreation class from CSU. This is a traditional annual event designed to acquaint members of this class with the activities of an advisory board. The meeting was opened by chairman Mr. C. W. Peterson at 7:20 p.m. Mr. N. R. Phillips introduced the members of the Board and the Parks and Recreation Department staff. Mrs. Gladys Eddy described the work of the Board and gave a bit of its history. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Mr. Tom Frazier reported on recreation programs in the city of Fort Collins. Mrs. Jean Belburg discussed community -school programs, especially those to be offered this summer. Mr. Bill Cropper reported on men and youth activities, and Mrs. Peg County talked about the senior citizens' program. Mr. Frazier emphasized the cooperation with the public schools, particularly the junior high and elementary school centers. The summer youth center will be open 49 hours a week and will share facilities with senior citizens. A showmobile including a portable band shell has been given to the city by Mrs. Fred Kluver. Its use will be inaugurated this summer for summer band concerts in City Park. Mr. Dave Gress described the city forestry department which is particu- larly active in the Dutch elm disease control program. Mr. Phillips said that the city has received a grant of $43,250 for projects in Edora Park. This will fund tnree new tennis courts including lighting, lighting of the west baseball field, and some curb and gutter work. Three other grants have been applied for. The city will acquire land for the Lee Martinez park, and it is developing a school -park site at Beattie School. The firm of Charles Ingalls and Associates has been chosen as architect for the indoor swimming pool. The plan is to be approved shortly by the City Council and the Poudre R-1 Board of Education. END is supplying $300,000 of the necessary $625,000 to construct the pool.. Mr. Frank Vandergriff, instructor for the CSU outdoor recreation class, in- formed the Board about a trip the class will take. The meeting was adjourned. Present: C. W.
