Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written. Mr. H.R. Phillips.reported that he would like to have a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Board on the site for a new swimming pool by April 1st. 2 The DT Pool Site Work Group submitted the following recommendation: "Rocky Mountain High or Edora be considered as sites for a swimming pool." Mr. West Sargent, Chairman of the Pool Site Work Group, stated that although the charge to the work group included only a site recommendation for an outdoor swimming pool, that the group would like to add some additional recommendations. 1. A pool be built which is an indoor facility or which would have the capacity to be easily converted to a year round facility in the future. 2. The covering structure should be as inexpensive as possible. 3. It should be a separate facility, completely self-contained (i.e. showers, lockers, and staff and equipment rooms should be built). Mr. Ray French moved that the Parks and Recreation Board accept the report of the Pool Site Work Group and thanked the committee for the work it had done. Lela Hyder seconded the motion and it was passed. Discussion on the Edora Park and Rocky Mountain High School sites followed. Edora was considered a good site because there are two municipal pools on the west side of Fort Collins and none on the east We. It was felt that this area would serve the greatest number of people. The question was raised that the park might be too crowded with a pool on the site. It was felt that there needed to be more study done to see how the area could be fully developed. Rocky Mountain High was considered a good possible site because it could become a total recreation center with tennis courts, football field, and a track there, too. It was also felt that there was a need for a pool at a high school. Discussion was held concerning how much land is available at each site, the size of pool needed, whether the pool should be an indoor pool, how much money is available, population in the areas, and which site would be more economical. It was felt that the Parks and Recreation Board needed more information before one site could be selected. Mr. Ray French moved that the Parka and Recreation Board recommend both Rocky Mountain High and Edora Park as possible sites for a pool and that the pool be an indoor facility or that it have the capacity to be concerted to a year-round facility. Also, that Mr. Bob Brunton have a study done to help the Board evaluate the feasibility of each site as to cost, space available, and t7pe and size of pools. The motion was seconded by Lela Hyder and passed. Mr. Bob Brunton said that he would have an architect make a study on the type, size, and cost of pools and send the information to the Parks and Recreation Board. The Board would then send a recommendation to the City Council. He stated that if additional funds were needed hat the recommendation for these funds should go to the steering committee of DT . n -2- Mr. A.R. Phillips reported that 26 namea hats been received for the "Name the Pool" contest. The Board felt that none of the submitted names were suitable winners. Therefore, the contest will remain open, and contestants may submit names for the pool or submit a name for the entire center at Lincoln Junior High. Mr. H.R. Phillips introduced three Outdoor d creation interns who will be working with the Parks and Recreation Der4rtment. He reported that there are 14 boys' soccer teams for the 4th, Sth, and 6th grades. Mr. H.R. Phillips reported that the new tenn.:s courts will be bid April 3rd and discussed plans for new baseball di!nonds. He will send itemized budgets to the Parks and Recreation Board members.
