HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 04/23/1974• ?AR :: N0 :RECUP".TION ADVISORNM MINUTES OF NdEETING April 23, 1974 The regular meeting of the'Fort Collins Parks and,Recreation Advisory Board was called to order by the Vice President, Dwain Miller, at 7-45 P.M. in the Parke and Recreation office, Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written, Mr. Tors Frazier announced that 1-fro Ho R. Phillips was unable to attend the meeting since he was attending a meeting to receive the 00Outstanding Citizen of the Year11 award, which is presented by the Board of Realtors. 14r. Tom Frazier announced that construction of the new indoor pool is progressing rapidly and that the pool might be completed by October instead of November. He also reported that the Youth Center and the City Park Pool will be painted in May. The softball fields are receiving tremendous use because thete are the same number of fields, but an ircresae in the number of players. Mr. Norman Chung reported on the Special Olympics for the Handicapped. Approximately 1.13 clients, raa^ing in age frca 3 to 55, participated in the swim, track and field eventeo C.lien a w c from �Goth111s Gateway, Loveland and Poudre R-1. Volumteers heiped run the ev�ais .and ribbons were given for let, 2nd and 3rd places. 15 to 20 of these participants will gvmlify to go to the state meet in Greeley. Fir. Tom Frazier asked the board members to review the list of names submitted in the the Pool Ccnteei:°°o Discussion was held on what the future use of Lincoln Jro Ifigh will be. It han not been decided whether it will be a cultural center and/or a recreatioral center. Therefore, the board did not make a decision on whether to name the entire complca or just the swimming pool. It was decided that the board members would rcuiew the list of names and decide on a winner at the neat meeting. It was suggested that the Board should have a list of possible names for new park sites. This would help hasten the naming of parks in the future. Board members were Baked to go see the new sign at City Park and the backstops at Beattie School. Complaints on the design end colors of these have been received. Mr. Richard Williams, 1fro Bob Leslie and Mr. Don Stank000ky, who are members of the Bicycle Club, were present to talk about the need for an outdoor bicycle racing traek in Fort Collins. This type of track is called a velodrum. The Olympic Development Race will be in Fort Collins on May 19th and will be held on the oval at CSU. Discussion on the size, cost, and materials for a track was held. The Bicycle Club members were asked to write a proposal fot a velodrum and submit it to the Parks and Recreation Department.
