HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 05/28/1974� s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting of May 28, 1974 © The meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was called to order by the President, Gladys E4dy, at 7:35 pm in the Parks and Recreation office. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved se presented. The Board acknowledged Ray French and H. R. Phillips for the following honors: The new stadium at Rocky Mountain High has been named the Ray French Stadium and the Board of Realtors awarded H. R. Phillips the "Citizen of the Year" award. The Board discussed the "dame the Pool" contest. Lincoln Jr. High may be a recreational and cultural center. Therefore, the Board decided to recommend a name for the entire center and then to name three choices for the indoor swimming pool name. Bob Hunt moved that the name of the center be "Fort Collins Community Center". Ray French seconded the motion and it was unanimously passed. This recommendation is to be sent to City Council. The Board voted on the following names for the indoor pool: let Choice - Ft. Collins Centennial Pool 2nd Choice - Center Pool 3rd Choice - Ft. Collins Community Swimming Pool These names will be sent to City Council as the recommendation from the Parks and 'Recreation Board. Mr. Bob Crockett, President of the Tennis Club, and Mr. Patrick Smith, the Country Club tennis pro were present at the meeting. Mr. Crockett stated that as President of the Tennis Club, he wanted to offer any appropriate volunteer help to the city with the tennis program at any time the city requests such input. H. R. Phillips stated that the Tennis Club has participated in the past and that the members may be able to give input on new courts as soon as some of the sketches are ready. Mr. Smith stated that he is interested in tennis facilities in Ft. Collins and that he felt that his assistance, andtthe assistance of those with expertise in tennis, might be beneficial to the city. Mrs. Eddy asked that members of the Board think of names for the new parks in Ft. Collins. Two that need names soon are the small 1h park on North Shields and the Aranci property. Rolli Moore, who has retired from the Parks and Recreation (Department, was mentioned as a person whose name might be conoidered in naming a new park. There are several other parks which will be needing names and the Board is asked to think of geographic areas and people's names. Mr. Tom Frazier said that the roof decking will be on the new indoor pool soon and then construction can continue regardless of the weather. Lockers, scoreboard, and other necessary items for the pool have been purchased. The parkinglot and landscaping are being designed. The City Park pool has had $25,000 in repairs this year and will be ready to open June 8th. 1 The boys soccer program was a tremendous success with 18 teams partici— pating. It was organized by CSU students who did an excellent job of getting the program started. The city is working to hire an architect for the proposed 3rd swimming pool. Edora Park is considered as an.excellent site and Rocky Mountain High is also being considered. The Parks and Recreation Board will tour the Lincoln Pool on June loth at 11:30 am. Mrs. Eddy announced that there would be no meeting during the summer unless some are specially called meetings. It was announced that the overall park plans would be discussed at an open forum on June 26th. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm. Present: Lela Ryder Bob Hunt Ray French H. R.
