HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 01/22/1980• r FORT COLLINS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT_ PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING - January 22, 1980 rr Tennis Popularity The Board agreed that according to the evidence available, tennis is not on the decline and tennis court development should proceed as planned. Tennis Court Costs Several members suggested that staff should consider reducing the distance between courts as a means of reducing costs. Recreation Update Jean Helburg reported on the current status of recreation programs. Parkland Fund Update Chuck Mayhugh expressed a concern that there was no provision in the budget for maintenance of newly devleoped parks. Rolland Moore Park: Bob Crockett was concerned that there seemed to be very little, if anything, in the budget for new development. Streetscapes &'Detention Ponds Policies Moved - Reid Seconded - Crockett The Board supports the purpose and content of the revised (1/3/80) "Policies and Guidelines for Landscape Development and Maintenance of Streetscapes and Detention Ponds", and recommends adoption by the City. Carried COMMENTS: 1. The area of streetscape landscaping, which the City would have to maintain, would increase under the conditions of this proposal. These increased costs should be evaluated and budgeted. 2. The proposal should be circulated to developers and other effected parties for additional input. 3. The overall approach and details of the document help to clarify the City's position and should make the process of plan approval more streamlined. Other Business Donna Beard circulated a letter from Mrs. Rose Brinks concerning the trails program as a whole and as it affected her property. Dwain Miller reported on his attendance and meeting of the Human Relations subcommittee. Bob Crockett asked the secretary to investigate the response, if any, by Council to recent Parks and Recreation Board recommendations. Election of Officers Chairman: Chuck Mayhugh Nominated by Grant Reid; Elected by acclamation Vice -Chairman: Grant Reid Seconded - Dwain Miller Nominated by Dwain Miller; Seconded - Ken Nelson Elected by acclamation Secretary: Ken Nelson Nominated by Dwain Miller; Seconded - Irene Toliver Elected by acclamation Woodwest Detention Pond Preliminary designs for the Woodwest detention pond were reviewed. Some minor concerns of the particular design were discussed. In the broader context, the Board felt that as a general philosophy detention ponds could be better utilized for parks and open space and could supplement neighborhood parks, especially where they are geographically deficient.
