PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
MINUTES: Regular Meeting - September 25, 1984
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by former President Mike
ImMasche. President Chuck Solano called in and could not attend. Mike
ImMasche also served as acting secretary for the meeting.
Agenda Review: No changes to the printed agenda.
Citizen Participation: No citizen participation.
Minutes: The minutes of the last regular meeting of August 28, 1984,
were approved unanimously, as submitted, on a motion by David Shands,
seconded by Cathy Mulcahy.
Election of Officers for 1984/85
According to the by-laws, election of officers will be at the September
Board meeting, and the new officers immediately assume their office.
Nominations were opened for President. Cathy Mulcahy nominated Bill Loy.
Bill Loy nominated Mike ImMasche. Mike withdrew. Bill Loy was unanimously
elected President of the Board for 1984/85. Bill took charge of the
meeting at this point.
Nominations were opened for Vice President. Bob Aukerman nominated
Cathy Mulcahy. David Shands nominated Ann Schroeder. Ann withdrew.
Fran Bujack moved the nominations be closed, seconded by Mike ImMasche,
and Cathy Mulcahy was unanimously elected Vice President of the Board
for 1984/85.
Nominations were opened for Secretary. Fran Bujack nominated Mike
ImMasche, seconded by Cathy Mulcahy. Mike was unanimously elected
Secretary of the Board for 1984/85 by acclimation.
Advertising Philosophy/Policy for Parks and Facilities
There was a round -table type discussion concerning advertising philosophy
and proposing a potential Council adopted policy for parks, open space,
and trails, and in recreation facilities. Last year, Cathy Mulcahy,
Chuck Solano, and Mary Elson were appointed as a committee on this
Parks and Recreation Board--2
issue. The question now is what direction this Board should take on the
issue of advertising. There was much general discussion. We have an
immediate issue regarding advertising on the basketball scoreboard
at the Northside Aztlan Center that we must solve soon. A new committee
composed of Cathy Mulcahy, Chuck Solano, David Shands, and Mike ImMasche
were appointed to continue development of a policy on advertising.
Parks and Recreation Board's Workshop
Chuck Solano is the 'moving force' on this topic, and because of his
absence, the Board voted unanimously to table discussion until the October
meeting, on a motion by David Shands, seconded by Bob Aukerman.
Other Business
- Jerry P. Brown explained the construction scheduled for around the
Downtown Community Center, including the sidewalks and sealing of
the building. The Board in 1978 and 1979 requested this action,
which is finally going to happen.
- Karen Schubert reported on the Ice Rink meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
